Hi,
I am in the process of replacing my steering rack on a 97 528i, and everything went ok except the lower shaft that has a splined end and connects the rack to the column came out and now I'm having a really hard time trying to get it back on. Any ideas? Everything I've read said that the shaft should slide right back on but that's not the case. Nothing looks bent or broke. I might try slight hammering to see if I can force it on. Other than that the steering rack wasn't as bad as I was fearing. On another note, I didn't put a block in between the pan and the jack and will have to replace the oil pan lol.

I'll have to try and get the lower shaft as close to the position of the steering rack as possible as the lower shaft that connects to the column can go on and make the steering wheel and column off. Oh well.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris Luke
