Hello all,
I'm new to the forum. Just wanted to share with you all a dyno graph that I have of my 1999 540i vs my friends stock 2007 335i coupe.
My dyno reading is in the red line and the graph is STD reading for both cars. Also my car was running a bit rich over 4.5k rpm.
My car:
STD:278whp 305wtq
SAE: 268whp 296wtq
frist two SAE runs for stock 335i were 251whp and about 270wtq. my friend couldnt believe it so we waited untill his car cools down some more and on 3rd run he posted some better #'s
let me know what you guys think.
BTW i have m60 intake, muffler delete, fan clutch delete, k&n filter and gutted airbox.

Interesting to see the graphs eventually if legit and indeed was done same day same dyno.
2003 M3CicM6 TiAg
2002 540iT Sport Vortech S/C 6MT LSD TiAg
2008 Audi A3 2.0T DSG (the daily beater)
2014 BMW X1 xDrive28i (wifemobile)
Former:
1985 MB Euro graymarket 300SL
1995.5 Audi S6 Avant (utility/winter billetturbobattlewagen)
335i is suppose to put down ~275whp in factory form.
Was 335 stock?

my butt dyno tends to believe this is close to correct. OP, are you near sea level? That's the worst case scenario for the 335i and the best case for the 540.
Interesting...
2001 330Cic/A in the same color combo is "Her" ride.
Why STD rather than the normal SAE?
What temp and altitude? The right combination will cause an over correction of the turbo car.

Yes the 335i is stock and he usually has a cobb tune but he wanted to see what it does stock. The temperatue for when 540i was dynoed was 55 deg.F and for the 335i it was 59 deg.F. Both cars were dynoed on a same dyno and the altitude of the city is 50ft above sea level. SAE gives lower reading so my friend decided to use STD for the printout. Two e39 m5 dynoed their cars and one dynoed at 303whp and other at 315whp.
did he dyno at all with the cobb tune?

That's the kind of conditions that will cause over correction on a turbo motor. The correction assumes the temp will mean a denser charge, but the turbo density will be limited by the waste gate to about the same as normal. Probably the most accurate thing would be to compare your SAE to his Raw numbers, but you can't do that on the same graph with the Dynojet software.
The other thing you could do is compare raw to raw, and say that this is what these two cars do today under these conditions. Tomorrow may be 20 degrees warmer and everything will change.

I few things. A) This is the best case scenario. The correction factor is valid for NA motors so yours should theoretically dyno the same no matter the temp or altitude. However, the correction does not hold up with FI motors particularly with altitude. Because you are under 1000 feet, it will make the 335i appear slightly down on power compared to what it actually makes (but not by much). B) I think your results are approx correct. The 335 is around 400#s less than the 540, and they run almost exactly 4/10ths faster in the 1/4 at low altitudes. C) This further verifies the M62(TU) is underrated and the S62 overrated.
His raw numbers are as I posted and mine corrected is 268whp. I raced my other friend with his stock e90 335i auto and walked him on the freeway. He had 1 passanger and I had 3 in my car. 335i is really fast when tuned also I'll post some videos since I just bought a gopro.
Ok thanks because I didn't know that. 335i do have better 1/4 mile times because their launch is better. When you run them on the freeway over 90mph they struggle as their peak power doesnt matter any more because it declines after 5.5k rpm. Am I allowed to post videos of racing on this forum?
The dyno that I posed are uncorrected for both.
Thank you.

you can't post a video directly to the forum.
post to youtube or other hosting site and post here... if youtube doesn't delete it you should be good to go to post here I think... I think.
Just be sure to say you are in mexico, lol.
