    Finally joined the club

...with my first BMW, a 2001 540i. Black/Black, 80k miles, 1-owner, and with sport pkg, cold weather pkg, premium sound, and some other trinkets. Looks/drives nice. Already working up to-do list with help here: Windshield rubber replacement, leaking w/shield washer tank. Thanks in advice for help. Brian

You'll love it. Do some reading around the forums, and you'll get a pretty good impression of what maintenance should be done to the vehicle.
    Automatic or manual?

Not to hijack the thread, but what's the deal with the bentley manual, and does it offer more than a bmw manual? Yes, I'm new too, and if all goes well, I'll have my 1st, a 98 528i shortly.

I think the Bentley manual is more or less the go-to reference for maintenance on these cars. It includes procedures and torque specs for practically any job you could imagine.

    "Manual or automatic?"

It's a steptronic auto. The p/o went to smog it day before purchase, and found 'minor' coolant leak, could have ignored, but spent $1200++ on a new radiator, hoses, belts, etc. Didn't try to reneg deal. Car came with every scrap of paper since new, incl window sticker.
Also has rear qrtr window shade that won't retract, and a non-op electric rear shade. Very fun so far...Brian
