Gots me a spare engine for when (if ever) I blow up my current 2.8
Most think im on borrowed time, so let's begin a journey of building up a low compression, bullet proof 2.8. Im not sure at this moment in time if I will go with an S52 crank and custom pistons (3.05), or stay with a 2.8 L displacement and install pistons, rods etc. Not overly in a rush to get this done due to the fact that the
287,000 mile original block is still holding strong
tipping the 500 RWHP marker. But the engine is on a stand and getting broken down.
BTW, I know nothing about this engine. I was told it was running but never has been confirmed. If anyone needs sensors or OBD2 manifolds let me know. Most of this engine will be up for sale for short change.

The engine will be a slow build. But I did pull off a cool repair today. I replaced the rear U-Joint on the driveshaft. Many say it can't be done but........ you know.
Original shaft and joint
Burnt out the U Joint
New U Joint installed
Needed to tack weld the caps in place
For future reference, the part # on a staked U-Joint is 430-11
It was a little more involved than normal Joints but it can be done.
Car was driven with no vibrations from shaft. ; )

Once repaired I will sand down 600 grit, prime and paint.
engine is slowly getting stripped down. Vanos is out and rebuild kit has been ordered. Im going to rebuild this Vanos unit, pop it in the current engine, then rebuild that one later in life for a spare.
As far as this engine goes, my plan is to build it up low compression S52 spec.

Nice job on the U Joint. Where did you source the new one from? I have 2 shafts I could sell easy if they had new U joints and shipping on those is super cheap. You can sell it to anyone in the country.
I'm in for the engine rebuild. Of course you realize that as long as you have that spare sitting there your current one wil go 1,000,000,000 miles.

Nice! What's in store for the winter?
I'm starting in the rear of the car and working to the front.
Basically I'm going to set this thing up to handle 1,000 bhp. I'm tired of "I better not launch too hard or I will break an axle"
I'm not saying this car will ever have 1,000bhp , but it will be able to handle it if it did.
I have a full rear section I have started to prep.

That said , if anyone needs stock axles or any other parts let me know. I have quite the bin going on. I have 3 engines torn down and 4 axles , I can rebuild a vanos real quick (3 ready for rebuild) if anyone needs.

Thanks, I've been welding for years as well. I have a couple migs, and a plasma cutter. But if you have access to a tig, I might be able to use you for a couple things. A buddy of mine is going to let me borrow a tig to fab up some pipes, but not sure when its available.
