Whats up everyone?
I got a problem, my engine seems louder than before and not normal. I just changed spark plugs, valve cover gasket, oil filter housing gasket, water pump, pulley I believe, oil change, belts, ccv & all hoses. After my oil change I added another quart of oil, thought it was low. My valve cover gasket is leaking again, I just changed all that stuff 4000 miles ago. Can overfilling oil cause valve cover gasket leak? Heres a link to the video about the Engine noise by the Disa valve, there is also like air rushing noise top of the disa in intake manifold i believe. Does the engine sound normal? Any help would be appreciated.

Can't say if it is normal or not. Those with a 530 may answer you better. However, FWIW, those repairs that are extensive, it s a common occurrence to leave something disconnected (by accident, of course). My recommendation is to check all the repairs you did for missing connections, with emphasis on those areas you suspect (such as DISA or CCV or similar with various vacuum lines). Failing that I would connect a diagnostic tool to see what fuel/air ratio you are running and if there are any codes being thrown.

Thank you. I will take a look this weekend. I thought i posted in e39 section
Your link has no sound. However, your camera points in the direction I thought my engine had a severe vacuum leak. It sounded like a CCV hose was disconnected but I think it's normal. I had the noise before and after I replaced my CCV. I also replaced the DISA gasket and the sound didn't change; plus most all the other things you mentioned. The only other thing I could think of is the intake manifold gasket. Try spraying brake cleaner around the problem area. If your rpm increases, you have a vacuum leak
Where did u get the disa gasket from??
Thank you

I did the ccv test and the bag gets suked in i think its mire than an inch. Also when i pulled the dipstick out while the engine was running, I could hear little bit of bubbling going on. Does that mean the Ccv is bad?
Generally higher vacuum at the oil cap area or gurgling at the dipstick means the CCV is bad.

I guess aftermarket really do suck for these cars. Only 4000 miles on this ccv and gone bad already.
Thanks for the help
Or it could be this, easy to do and worth a shot. http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=552536
I actually thought of that also after reading the forums. That would be great and easy if its that. Just change the chain tensioner but i am pretty sure ccv have gone bad also. Is there a way to test the tensioner before getting a new one?
Thank you
Not easily. More importantly by the time you take it out, inspect it, and try to determine if if is ok or not is a wasted exercise considering the low cost of replacement and ease of installation. The"new" tensioners are considerably stronger and greatly reduce any possibility of chain noise on startup. It is one of those easy, effective, and "must do" items for the E 39.

I will change it for sure. The car has 119000 miles, it wouldn't hurt to change it.
do you know the part number for it? Where exactly is it located, its by the vannos?
Thank you
Not sure of location on a 530. The part is easy to find through most BMW parts houses. Just look up your model and year and search for "timing chain tensioner". I don't recommend buying this part from anyone other than a reputable BMW parts house. It is a vital part of your timing chain's reliability and guide life, not to mention chain slop noise! After replacement my engine made NO mechanical noises on start up whatsoever.

I am buying alot of parts from pelicanparts.com was thinking of adding this also. They sell oem parts.

Did you buy yours from a dealership? How much was it?
Don't remember now, but it was a genuine replacement part. I think it was around $50 or so. You can probably find it for less.

This is the link to the tensioner. Please let me know if that is the right one?

Appears to be correct. If you need help replacing it, I am almost positive there are videos (search for it) on the Internet, including several DIY's. You may not be able to use a socket wrench in some situations as the space around it is pretty cramped. Standard end-wrenches work well however.

I think I hear some vanos bearing noise. Have you done the vanos rattle repair?
No i am about to do the vannos seals this coming weekend.
Going from experience with my 530i, that is louder than normal. I too think that the vanos bearing is what you are hearing.
I ordered the seal repair kit, should i wait and see if its still making noise after replacing the seals?
Thank you guys for all the help.
Did you order the bearings? The bearings are what fixes the noise known as rattle. Besian refers to it as the rattle repair. You should do that and the seals at the same time.
I wanted to get everything done this weekend. I dont know if I will get the rattle repair kit on the weekend if i order it now. You dont think its the tensioner noise?

Here is another video.
If you listen to it in the beginning its coming from that white bolt type of a thing which to me it looks like its the tensioner. I also have alot of oil around that area, i am not sure from where. And the black sensor type thing is that the camshaft sensor?
http://youtu.be/TKRacWhIQx0
I cannot say with 100% certainty that it is the vanos. I can tell you mine sounded like that and I fixed it with the rattle repair. If you take the belt off and start the engine, the noise should disappear if it is a tensioner. Trust me, you will not want to have to do the vanos twice. It is not wise to have it off and not do the bearings especially with that noise.
