Wow, see what happens when you don't check here for a few days, you miss cool stuff!!

There were 2 Schnitzers, this was Paul Simons he was from Las vegas he had a few cars at Hardy&Beck at any given time.

He had a switch installed in this car to turn off the rear lights, he might have had the schnitzer strips removed as this was a "sleeper" car for him.
If you get this car I would for sure contact Allen Hardy or att least talk to George about the car. they will also have some info about it..I have more pictures of this one, I will dig them up..
    Very cool, Very cool indeed!!!

    Nice find,
    Jeff

that's funny, back in the day I had installed switches in my E21 to shut off the tail lights as well. they're still hooked up and I still use them on occasion.

This. I don't celebrate the signs of neglect, particularly on such a rare piece of history.

A restore of this car will be a handfull, but in a good way!
Looks like it might have had U.S. bumpers at one time as there seems to be cutouts for the bumpershocks. This was common for H&B cars as the law at that time was 5 mph bumpers. I do not remember that car getting them though.
It would be nice if you could locate a Ca. Bureau of automotive repair smog sticker, They were issued from the referre but if it has been sitting as long as you think it has, there may not be one and I doubt you will have the EPA & DOT releases. Allen might be able to help, for a price.

The Clifford alarm and Nakamichi stereo were standard issue Hardy&Beck add ons. Allen is quite the audiophile and we installed very top end stuff for the day. That system had Nakamichi plate speakers also in 4 corrners, we also favored ADS 300i's
The Schnitzer diff. cover is almost identical to the Alpina, but the fins are slightly different, still a 9 on the very cool scale.
I hope you still have the Motorsport front bumper/airdam on the car, intact.

Nice that both these 323i turbos have shown back up in the last few months:

    http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum....php?t=1921170

This is the sister car to the white one, they spent much time together when they were young.
Let me know if you need some help with anything once you own it!!

Jeff, you're referring to just the two imported to the states by H&B, correct? Do you have any idea how many there were world wide?

Man I am so happy I posted this on the forum, I knew I would find someone who knew about the car.

I believe it has the front air damn still, I'll have to go look at it again. I'm bummed that someone took the speakers, but I might be able to find some on ebay. I will definitely get in touch with Allen when the time comes.

Can this car be classified as a classic yet?

Jeff any pics of H&B's audio installs would be greatly appreciated.

Here is a pic of some ADS and Nakamichi components from the 80's. I've been stockpiling them for my car. I'm not looking to sell but these come up on ebay from time to time. The plate speakers are 300is and the separates are 320i.

    Historic plates?
Only legal for driving to/from special events, I believe no smog testing either.
(not sure how they categorize special events )
I forget if it's 30 or less years old.
Somebody here knows more details for sure.

    Edit: it's 25 years old:

Josh, These were the 2 that I know of, I have no idea how maney were made.
Please do remember, this was just Schnitzer...There was no AC Schnitzer yet, that came latter with maketing for parts and wheels.
There were no Schnitzer wheels,in the '80s they used BBS.

I have no pictures of stereo installs, but there is a hell of a colection!!

In TX, there's 2 options: "antique" plates are supposed to be for shows and events only, and "classic" plates are nothing but a fancy plate (no restictions). Both are available for any car 25 years and older.

Boy that diff cover sure looks like the Alpina one sitting on my desk here. Seems odd that one tuner would use another's part like that, but who knows since, as someone pointed out, they weren't "AC Schnitzer - Parts Purveyor" at that point in time.

Air dam on the Schnitzers always appeared to be the factory motorsport part.

That cover is lookin pretty identical, I had remembered the fins shaped a little different from the Alpina. Would like to peek and see if it has the "ALPINA" cast into the support arm like mine. This just proves..I can't seem to remember a damm thing from the '80s!!

I do belive the spoiler is the BMW Motoersport part..

That looks very different to the one pictured in this Schnitzer 323i turbo brochure:

Schnitzers finn diff covers are very rare.

The one in the photo #65 is a Alpina for shure.

I'm loving the gradient block billboard graphics. Mmm Badass...

Any chance you can snap a pic of the Nak deck and any car audio related items?

    Calif historical plates

Just FYI, there is no real benefit to have historical plates in Calif aside from the "that's cool/different" factor. California still wants a smog every other year to renew reg, AND if you get pulled over, and the cop is having a bad day, you could end up spending some quality time listening to the officer lecture and/or get a ticket if there was no "event" you were driving to/from. I know this from experience, your results may vary.
