25mm equals 1". I don't know if that would mean going to b4, I really haven't ever seen that nomenclature, but the sport is generally (and exclusively) used for lowering. A lot of people including myself have used the HD variety in conjunction with lowering springs. I think the consensus is that the hd/sport valving is equivocally the same, with the sports having a shorter bump stop, though some research has brought forth the reason to believe the valving is higher in the sport (IMO the valving is already catered to the comfort spectrum in either), than that of the HD. If you truly wanted a ride catered to your springs or driving characteristics, it's best to contact bilstein directly with your inquiry. From what I understand, they will rebuild a set of shocks to your requirements (with guidance) for around $80USD per piece.

Just snapped these up picking them up tomorrow!

    BBS RS740 (BMW style 42) 17 x 8 ET20

Saw a picture in a thread of them on an E24 and loved them so checked eBay and there they were! So dropped a cheeky bid and got them for a steal!

I think the centres will go lovely with the delphin paint.

Can't wait to get them on

Finally found the right wheels for my 635

BBS RC740 17 x 8 et20 square off an E39 refurbished in anthracite and chrome look powdercoat and built up with new bolts. The anthracite colour is conveniently similar to the delphin paint!

Car will be going lower and planning on fitting 20mm spacers and I've got BMW centre caps to go on.

Got a bit of a bargain last night.

Freshly reupholstered leather sports interior, door cards too

And a brand new exhaust system (impossible to get hold of in UK it seems! )

various trim pieces including the rear boot lining to replace mine which mine has fallen to bits!

    A spare ECU!!

A spare OBC and heater control panel.

Should get the interior in over the weekend. Looking forward to getting rid of the tired comfort interior! And replacing the exhaust which currently resembles a perforated tube!

    Update

Got the car lowered down just over an inch on new dampers, really pleased with how it's sitting and it drives so much better now, much less wobbly actually feels like a good handling FAST car. There's 25mm spacers on the rear too, will be getting front spaced soon also.

And got the sports interior fitted and treated with Meguiars leather conditioner. It is amazing to sit in, so comfortable and I don't keep sliding into the door and centre console around corners!

The car is still going well and has 95% of its systems fully functional now!

Was at an awesome car show at the Four Ashes pub last night and grabbed a good snap!

Very, very nice. I really like the anthracite centers on the style 42's. Keep us posted.

Whilst messing around with the exhaust I noticed that the pitman arms were knackered. I removed them and they feel apart!

Replaced them this morning and wow! What a difference they make to the feel of the back end it's so much more solid.

Also got yet another cheeky snap. I can't just walk away from this car. I have to turn back and have a look!

The UK is very wet and salty I didn't put it all on to be fair but I'm glad it's there. I've scrapped it back in quite a few places to make sure it wasn't hiding any nastiness. Found a repair patch that hasn't lasted so need to sort that next!

This cars still going strong! Need to get the title changed really!

Big work being undertaken at the moment due to a small exhaust leak turning into complete manifold to head gasket failure.

So I fetched all the exhaust off to fit new gaskets and generally clean the engine bay up as it's being letting the car down massively. Here's a few pics of the work so far. Including my refresh of the rocker cover which I'm in love with!

Still debating whether to remove the inlet plenum to clean it up or do it in situ to save disturbing the fuel system etc

I wouldn't take the inlet manifold off if I didn't have to. It's rather difficult to access and remove.

But obviously it will look better if you refinish it.

You can use Bilstein HD's with lowering springs and HD's and sports are valved the same.

Nice looking cars! I'm glad you picked an E24. I had an S14 Kouki myself, in black. It was just like yours except for that tasty SR20DET. We had to make do with the KA24DE over the pond.

I like those wheels a lot. I figured it would make the car pretty monochromatic & dull, but they are stunning. Nice choice!

Not sure if you'd found an answer about your dampers - but I'm told that your B4 Bilsteins are the base units - twin-tube gas dampers - same as our "Touring Class." The B6 units are "Comfort" or "Heavy Duty" (depending on valving?) monotube high-pressure gas. Our Bilstein Sports are your B8 series, also monotube high-pressure gas. Then you get into their crazy-expensive BTS & PSS coil-over/adjustable stuff.

Thanks mate, I went for b4's in the end and the 'cut 1.5' coils off the springs method. It rides perfect and lowered it just the right amount.

Your car looks fantastic Sean! That valve cover is nasty looking! Subbed.

Stripped a lot more out the bay for cleaning. It all comes apart easily which is nice!

Decided to paint the inlet manifold in situ and just used propanol to remove any errant hammerite from the surroundings!

Also got a nice collection of cleaned parts to go back on

Just finished bringing the thermostat housing back to life

I've also ordered all the items to do an ATF change on the auto box and the hydroboost system.

    Still slugging away at this.

Started to put bits back together. Although for every item I bolt back on I remove another to clean up

Little pic I did of the thermostat housing refurb.

Retaped all the looms in the engine bay so they no longer look like an old mummy

And bought a load of fluids
