I'm not sure expanding foam does much except stop rattles. Alot of extra effort but I'd build f/glass patches. A mate of mine used to swear by rivnuts, McDonalds plastic eat-in trays, and a heat gun.

Couple pics after some sanding, fits just like it did before I started glueing.
Interior getting gutted for cable runs
Got the carpet out and started removing the stock 0ga (maybe smaller) wire.... What a nightmare! The conductor that goes through the firewall is a solid 1/4" piece of copper that snakes through all complicated. But I got it, gonna put a stud on it for my 2/0 I'll be running while I wait for rivnuts to get here so I can do the baffle brackets.
Got my 4ga-4/0 crimper and some fuse blocks
Also just bought black carpet and door panels that I'll be using for the final door build. Full black interior will come later, or I'll try my hand at dyeing.
Tried out the crimper, it's SOLID!
More goodies
Rivnuts installed for the baffle board
Brackets, there'll be a total of 8-10 planned so far
I only have 4 installed right now and it is stout for sure.
It is rigid! Gonna add 2 more brackets, for the peace of mind, for a total of 10. I push/pulled on the sub magnet/baskets, rocked the whole car and didn't see any flex.
Whew, been a crazy couple weeks but I'm chipping away at the car.
Got my battery in, and it is a tank
New run of 2/0 from the firewall back to the battery, properly crimped, techflexed and terminated with heatshrink
Base board cut out for the amps, gotta make brackets and do some milling with the router.
Stiffened up with some angle iron... I can stand on it with minimal flex
Picked up a large box....
Z8R
Tweeters
Mids
Midbass
Another large box... Door panels and carpet
Had to make sure it'd fit
Knu fuse and ground block
That's it for now... Update again as progress is made.
Ran new wires for the L8 and L3s, going to use stock wires for the L1s.
12 & 16ga through the door plug
Various pics of the runs throught the car
Crossed over the vent here to avoid the main power wire as much as possible.
Video and USB cables run, I think that's it. Put about 3lbs of sound deadening in each front door, gonna put some down on the floor and see if I can stick some to the underside of the dash just cause I have so much extra.
Then I think I can start putting the interior back in.
Why not stick some on the roof while you're at it, that's probably the biggest flattest panel in the whole car. I did the roof on my old Alfa; made a substantial difference in noise and also cooled the interior down on sunny days.

Much easier to do when no seats in there. No need to thank me for all this extra work

Decided the headliner can wait. When I swap it out for a black one, or wrap it myself I'll worry about it then.
Put 9sqft of alpha damp and second skins luxury liner pro under the carpet in various spots and put black carpet it.
Gonna dismantle the dash and put deadening in where I can get to.
Also got my new battery charger
Tried a couple places for the Z8R, opinions?
Hate it under the dash, looks like a nasty turbo timer. Not a huge fan in front of gear knob. One thing to consider is how bright are those green LEDs; once had a bass boost that had a single blinding blue LED on it, had to shift it cos it was so distracting at night.
What about in the ash tray?

do you really foresee yourself fiddling with it regularly?
i'd hide it completely. or at least in the glove box.
wow. is that what it's intended for?
i haven't really kept up on the new zapco stuff. i'm still using dc reference amps which i believe have similar processing to what you're using. i have a remote control unit for the amps also, but don't even keep it in the car.
This build is awesome! That's my opinion.
But.... when I look in the interior of the E39, I see one blank spot that would look fine with controls placed there. Right next to the shifter:
Another idea I had, if you look at the screen In the fine interior above, the frame of the bezel on the left and right appears to be a half inch or so. If you carved into those, and made them more narrow, you could perhaps shift the screen to the right giving a margin of space of the left to install the device. That's assuming your screen is of similiar size. And that thing is as small as it appears.
