Post The New BMW 320i Sedan.

Woodcliff Lake, NJ – January 14, 2013 11:30 am Eastern … With last year’s launch of the sixth-generation BMW 3 Series Sedan, the benchmark by which all sport sedans are measured was raised. Today, BMW opened the latest chapter in the 3 Series story as it announced the new 2013 BMW 320i Sedan for the US market. Constructed with the near-perfect 50:50 balance afforded by BMW rear-wheel drive and priced from $33,445 (including $895 Destination & Handling), the new BMW 320i packs a content-rich punch in the marketplace for premium compact sport sedans. Sporting a 180-horsepower TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder engine, the new BMW 320i Sedan goes on sale in late-Spring 2013. Along with the new 320i Sedan, the BMW 320i xDrive Sedan featuring BMW’s intelligent all-wheel drive system will also be available from $35,445 (including $895 Destination & Handling). The broad palette of standard equipment includes Bluetooth smartphone integration and BMW’s Auto Start-Stop function.

When will window switches come back to the center console?

Very nice indeed. Call me weird but this looks like a drivers car. However I do agree with the aforementioned. I miss the window controls on the center console. Something small but I do miss it.

I used to love my 320i. It was a great little beach car and a good car for a new driver. The window controls in the center were a nice little touch too.

We've had it here since launch. Good to have choice, esp. when the 328 is priced so high now, not very competitive entry price. This should make it easier for more people to get into newer bimmers.

Is it even worth it? For such a big long car, 180hp?

At 200 lb-ft down low on a lighter car than the e90, I think yes. I had a 200hp and 180 lb-ft e90 323 and with a manual it was still quick when in the right gear. Even on the highway in 6th, you never felt short for power if you are doing normal passing. The 8 speed is supposed to be very responsive.
Just think that 32K puts you in a brand new bimmer, a stripped one yes, but a new bimmer nonetheless. That will appeal to many. That has not happened in the US in the past 10 years I believe.

I think it will sell like crazy!

Anybody know what the difference between the 320 and 328 engines is? Size of the turbo or just a tuning difference?

It has to be smaller, otherwise, where is BMW saving the money to lower the price?

EDIT: After looking at the pics, it looks like the N20 is in there. How the hell is this car cheaper if it's the same size, same available features, and same drivetrain????? Seems like it makes more sense to get a 320i, throw a tune on there and make it into a 328i for $5k less.

It is not same features as base (same features as 328/335 will be available in addon packages). It is also slightly detuned so they probably save a grand or so on the intake and other engine components.

And I thought everyone drove a new 3 series now.... Now everyone really can and will. I'm happy for BMW as a company but there goes the exclusive factor. Seems like it will still be a great car for the money compared to all the uninteresting products on the market today.

    Post Detroit 2013: 2013 BMW 320i Drops 60 Horsepower, Saves $4300 Over 328i

Is there room for a sub-328i model in the 3 Series lineup? BMW apparently thinks so, as it’s introducing the new 2013 320i here in Detroit at the 2013 North American International Auto Show. Mechanically, there’s almost no real difference between this car and a comparable 328i. Power still comes courtesy of the same N20 [...]

What exclusive factor? Maybe somewhat within the newer models but you can pick up E30's, E36's etc for dirt cheap. That "exclusivity" is far gone with the aging of their older models.

BMW's haven't been exclusive since god knows when. There's always been a lease-spec 3 series that has been their volume seller.

I thought they had a 07 330i, okay, I will take a 06 330i over this, more power, near same fuel economy and about a third of the price. Straight 6 Powa

Now the question is, will BMW make a 420i? Or will they just leave it at 428i and 435i?

Sounds like a good little car. However that 8 speed transmission had better be good since 180hp and 200lb-ft would be a dog in a car without a good transmission.

I bet is will sell well. I also bet is will also feel underpowered by today's US BMW standards.

Why would it be a dog? It weighs (just looked this up) 3250 lbs ... about what e36/e46 325/325 weighed and neither of those were dogs (and still aren't really even today) ... and with that 200 ft.lb available from 1250 rpm, I would imagine it's actually very quick ... even though the numbers might suggest otherwise!

The 8 speed is actually an amazing trans, eso. coupled to the N20. Did not test it on the F30, but on the heavier X1, it felt pretty quick and responsive for an AT.
It is not slow, as I said, even my 323 felt fast if you knew how to use it (mainly be in the correct gear, which with the AT is almost moot).
