So i have no sound at all from the driver side of the car. passanger side works great but i dont get any sound from the driver side. Also when i adjust the fade and balance right/back keeps passanger side speakers working. if i go back/left they dont work. Would this be a radio problem or the factory amp in the car?
Also where is the factory amp if there is one?
I looked back there, was not behind that.
It should be there... In my past travels, its usually been the head unit, or even a loose connection. I'd check all the radio and amp connections first, then try the head unit.
Guess ill have to pull the whole panel off and not try to pull it out to look behind. But im pretty sure i had it out far enough and there was no amp behind there.
Yea i wasnt even looking there, i was looking more in the back. Thank you, ill go check that all now.
Yea I found it. That metal plate was hiding it from me. I'm gonna pull it in the garage tmro and check the connections and see if that's it. I have a new radio to put in just waiting for the adapter so I can put it in. Hopefully that fixes the no sound on the driver side.
Keep me posted as I have the exact same problem, I swapped amps (thanks TGreene) didnt solve the problem.
Still no sound from the Drivers side speakers, pass side work fine front/rear.
Best of luck, I ended up not caring after two weekend of tracing wires/hunting fuses and just listen to the engine again (less commercials that way too ..)

Well, you have at lease two people in the thread whos problems were fixed with a new HU...
Know anybody in the area that would allow you to swap HU's to confirm?
I have the same problem. Mine cut in and out from time to time. I have swapped amps with a spare i have and the problem is still there. The old BMW head units always seem to have funky ways of going out.
Hey, I started out with the same problem and found that it is in fact the head unit. I found the fix by wiggling the volume button like a joystick while raising the volume at the same time and then the sound came back.
Your speaker might be blown. Have you tried swapping speakers from left to right?

I can confirm that changing the headunit did fix my problem. I have sound from all speakers now and they sound great.
Ok so my problem is that the sound would be really crappy and then kick in all of a sudden, where now, the sound only comes from the right and is very weak. I assumed the amp but now thinking the Aftermarket head unit but its not more than 3 years old.
I had that issue. It turned out to be the equalizer module that plugs into the side of the amp. There are two cards inside it. One had an open resistor and the other was good so I plunged it in the side closest to the metal plate and now it sounds amazing
