    Building Tube Frame E46 GTR

    Happy New Years everyone!!!

I decided to start a new thread from the one I started the other day with regards to visiting SF BMW and seeing the M1, 4 door PTG, E21 Turbo car and BatMobile.

As I mentioned, I was given the actual fenders from the Schnitzer car.
However, this turns out to be the later version and not the ones requested. It wasn't easy to get the fenders, so I have to do my best to reverse engineer and modify the front fenders. This will mostly be done by digital modeling and measurements from the Schnitzer fenders and a stock e46 m3.

Most of you know that BMW's are an extreme hobby of mine and not what I work on daily. This project interested me so much, I decided to take it on.

I was provided a few engines, panels, moulds, grand am chassis and whatever else I needed to build the car/s.

I stayed home with family and kids last nite and off to the snow today. But got a little work done....

    more to come.

All of the parts are trucked to my shop. Should I start another thread of the PTG e36 chassis we are assembling?

Absolutely. If you created molds of those PTG panels, you just might be God's gift to the E36 community..

I have all the original PTG moulds.

Also, have a set of carbon fiber PTG e36 panels completed.

I'll post some pics of it when I get to my hotel. And start a new thread.

We can run in gt1, with the v8.
    However, the
    N54
    Are
    Making 600whp nowadays.

    Thoughts?

It all boils down to where do you want to race the car? Which V8?

Willing to make an extra set of front fenders? That would save me a bunch of time making my own.

We received three s62 engines and two
    Sequential gear boxes.

    We
Have moulds of the entire e46 and working on the front fenders and nose panel.

I have most of the front nose model completed.

He will be selling panels after they are completed.

Will run it in gt1. Only bmw running nationally that I know of, respectively.

If gt allowed turbos, an m5 engine would be installed and chances of winning are decent.

The overall weight with s62 should be under 2400 lbs.

I hate to burst your bubble but with that engine your minimum weight is 2680 lbs. At 600 hp you won't be competitive at all. Your going to need at least another 100 hp. I think you would be better off in GT-2 running a 6 cylinder. If you haven't done so, I would sit down and read the SCCA's GCR before you decide on a class. Why build a car just to run in the back of the pack.

welcome to the forum, old shoe.
    name?

had a meeting with the owner and will leave that to him. he's fairly open.
he's got a great proven driver already and I've seen him take the pole in GT3 with underpowered cars. But, I agree Gt1, is very competitive.

just in case you missed it. here's the fender off of the later schnitzer GTR.

yesterday, I returned it to BMW and now I have to work on reverse engineering the quarter panels.

BTW, all of the moulds for an e46: roof, doors, hood, trunk are completed.

God, I hope I don't ever happen to have a E46 M3 chassis fall upon my lap... Just sayin'

I have (like many) lost many nights sleep day-dreaming about a build like this... and to see it happening is just, well, fantastic!

    here's the GTR fender.
Once I clean up the model and match it to the early model fender, we can machine this.
