    Convertible Boot Lid Won't Open

A couple days ago I posted a thread about my convertible top frame squeaking
    http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum....php?t=1935114

I tried to do what was suggested, but now my boot lid won't open.
If I pull the handle to release it, the drivers side is released and you can pry at it but the passengers side is being kept closed.

    So what did I do?

    - get a long flat screwdriver
    - lift little black flap
    - locate white plastic end of cable
    - press on it a little bit and with release.

remembe to pull back safety on driverside just febore lifting lid, run finger under it and you'll find it.

then, adjust cables by locking releases with top up, both side should activate at same time.

happy sunny new years driving to ye

    Don't mind the drunk guy.

For your lid release, what has probably happened is that the bottom cable has come out or broken from the release handle on the drivers side. Remove the surround for the handle, remove the speaker cover and you should be able to see the two cables for the release latches. The bottom one is for the pax side. To get it open, reach in with a pair of needlenose pliers and pull until you hear it release. You will probably have to scrounge either a new handle for a replacement or find one at a junkyard. It is the same handle as the passenger side door.

    Update: Finally!

Beautiful day out today reminded me how much I missed my top being down.
I recruited my roommate to help me out with this.
He held open the boot lid open for me while I unscrewed this:

It was the cable for the handle to unlock the passengers side lock.
Closed the lid and it re-opened just fine.
    Looking forward to sunnier days

So the cable was not broken out of the release handle? (Which was why I was thinking you needed a new handle). Looks like it just needed adjustment for an old, stretched cable. Excellent work!

Yea, i took your advice and checked that out, but i was relieved to see that the cables were still connected.

FYI if anyone does have to replace the handle, the new ones have plastic arms that the cable pin attaches to whereas the originals had metal arms. These are easily swapped over to the new handle by pushing out the pivot pin.
