How to turn automatic aircon off

    Hi guys,
I have a 1998 318i E46 and when I turn the ignition on the air con turns on automatically, is it possible to have this not happin because its annoying having to manually turn it off everytime.

    Thanks for your help.

Try using a different key, it is highly unlikely that all the keys where coded the same, failing that hop across to the M5 board there are a few posts on this subject

    Thanks

When I bought the car it had an aftermarket headunit in it so could that be the reason it does that?

Wow I have exactly the same issue where the air comes on automatically. I only have one key so are there any other solutions out there. I have a 2006 318i. Thanks

From my understanding there were 2 climate control unit variants, the earlier one with fan speed selection at the bottom and the other with fan speed selection at the right hand side of the lcd display. Up until now I thought that the later model allowed for the unit to remember it's last used state and stay switched off when you turn the ignition on (Mine does this) whereas the earlier version didn't. woksgolfy's comment has made me doubt this as a 2006 car should come with the later climate control unit and thus work as OP wants.

I have not seen any coding options to change this behavior,

It's there. Becasue I changed mine to last state. Remembers if off or on, if ac off or on and last temp.
i don't remember if it was a key setting in the GM or ihka

If I were to give my Touring a first name, I'd probably name it "Alan".

Is this available on both climate control unit variants? What coding software do you use?
