How weird? I mean, I'll admit, probably not the smartest decision in my life. But it feels good so far.

turbo 6 > v8
but will be an awesome build non the less
Been there done that. I'm not a high revving kinda guy.

I'm all for it, brute force driftin'!
Did you get to drive any events with the turbo I6? Vids?
-Mike
It's weird because you just had a VERY potent setup, that will blow most LSX out of the water unless they're SC or turbo, or VERY highly modified N/A. LSX are everywhere now, every car at the event sounds the same. I think it gets boring, but the torque is undeniable.
I'd rather just clutch kick, but to each their own
Congrats on building a drift car again though instead of just bailing

Holly molly now that was unexpected, but why gto? you now have to buy a rear sump oil pan, gto are front sump common swap for 240s lsx.
......... e30s are front sump sir. Hence why e30s use e34 oil pans for 24v swaps.
MMm i dont own a e30, didnt know, but yes i remember the e34 swap thing now, good choice then,,,, or not, like turbo better hope that you finish this one and at least drift it once.

That's an M50 turbo 400whp. I did a few runs and street drives with the S52 with 100whp more.
The issue with the setup was partially personal preference and partially maintenance. I kept having random issues with the turbo setup. It just wasn't practical. Oiling issues, return line issues, turbo too close to the VC so it melted the coil wires. Death by a thousand paper cuts. The LS2 should have the same total power as my M50 turbo but with less fuss and (IMO) strung out feeling. Also I like projects so this is an uncommon swap.
I think the key thing is that I personally dislike being high in revs. I've driven a number of cars and V8s always felt better for my driving style. Worst case, this motor will still do what I want.
Ls1s are known for oiling issues. LS2s still have them but are known to be much better. They breathe better and I can badge my car a 360 (lol). They are also mated with the strongest T56 that came factory so this is my best chance not to break one.
Oh and also the S13 version of the oil pan supposedly fits so no need for anything special. And yea, E30s are front sump.

Your old set up was light years cooler but i get the reliability part.
Cooler? really? I felt like turbo MS5x motors were dime a dozen now. Although even 1J swaps are getting cliche and LS swaps are on their way...

Yep, M5X turbo are way more unique. Well good luck with the new one! I think if you had given the S52 more of a chance and learned how to drive it thoroughly you would've liked it. Stuff like the vavle cover you should see before even running it, ignition heat shield for top mounts, etc. When turbo setups are put together carefully and methodically (anally? :p ) they are very reliable. My engine has 30k on it at over 470whp it's entire life. Literally only thing I've had to do to mine from drift events this year is change the oil and tires.
V8 torque is definitely easier to drive though!

aside from the hg a few times eh there buddy? that thing's been apart a few times for one reason or another (upgrades) amiright?
Blew the HG once while tuning on the S52. I shoulda seen the heat shield coming but my M50 turbo had no issues with it. I do have a habit of major builds randomly... This is no different lol.

This sh*t should be legit!!!!
I'm really excited about this. Pushrod V8 sound is always a fun time!
Are you going to put a cam in the LS2 before you stuff it in?
La swaps are much much more cliche than any JZ motor. I install them for a living, I wish they were cliche.
You custom making the mounts like in your feeler thread?
The name of the game is stock stock stock. I'm not gonna mess with this motor for a while outside of a basic ECU tune. Less stuff I mess with, the less likely it will break
I see 1J swaps all the time around here. About as prevalent as an LS to me. More 1J E30s than LS E30s.
I'm not custom making anything lol. Along with the new idea of reliability, I'm paying a shop to do the work. I am not their first LS E30.

I like it
Any updates? Whats up with the JE CRX?
Finally someone's thinking outside the box!
