Ok, I guess I was envisioning it correctly then. I've done a lot of LFB for racing, to balance the attitude of the vehicle. Of course that works differently for front and rear wheel drive applications, and both of those seem quite different than the use of LFB in drifting. But I think I basically get the concept.
The only thing I'm not really imagining is where you say you could do something similar with the e-brake. To me it should make for a completely different vehicle behavior and a completely different picture from outside the car. LFB allows you to stay hard on the throttle, but apply drag to the car (and slow it) primarily through the front tires. Versus e-braking where you are really only reducing rear wheel speed to whatever degree...
With LFB, you're keeping the rear out while slowing down the front. So you can pivot the car more but effectively slow the car down. When ebraking, you're off throttle and the rear wheels are locked so you're still slowing down and pivoting more. Same idea right? Mostly.
From the outside, the tires aren't smoking and you're off throttle so it isn't exciting to watch. Plus you'll be on and off throttle to keep your wheels spinning to stay in drift. You don't want to ebrake drag around a whole oval cuz you'll slow down too much and get sucked in. So sometimes you'll see people who are loud then quiet then loud then quiet a bunch of times.

Tried some ATRs today. For 225s and 400whp, they had amazing forward bite. But man if you were off throttle at all, the car floated out. Only lasted 6 laps <_<

SWEET pic!
So does the rear side hood pop make a noticeable improvement in cooling?
You know. I've heard a ton going back and forth. I've even heard some people say it hurts cooling since the factory designed the air to go under the car. I've never measured. The logs I pulled from sunday says that my temps are actually great when I'm on track and that they creep up after my run is over and I've slowed down. So I figure heat radiates up and this would help it escape when I'm barely moving. I had tons of issues with cooling when I was sitting still.
I also did log 104F intake temps on a <50F day. I might make a box around the air filter to help that out.

Interesting. I was just pondering yesterday where I was going to chop some stupid looking slots in my hood to let heat out when I start having problems.
I've had similar thoughts. I'd love to cut up more but I'm worried about water getting places in the engine bay. At that point, a cowl is about all you can do. And man would that look goofy.

Yeah, I don't see any way to achieve the heat expulsion goals without letting water pour in... Maybe throw some magnetic sign material over the slots when the car is sitting lol.
I actually think a tube front end would help quite a bit with getting air into the bay. The hood risers in the rear would become more effective too. But that's far too much work for me.
Once I update my logger stuff for "external sensors", one of the sensors I want is a general engine bay temp sensor. I'm also still looking into the best way to gather slip angle data. So far I just have to find a small waterproof weather vane.
I'll post some data logs once I have time to sit down and look into things.

The slot I cut in my hood dumps right behind my fan, so when it rains the water just goes between the rad and motor, doesn't soak anything
Yep just the one, I never really drove it without the vent so I can't say If it's a help or not, but it looks cool and my car doesn't overheat so I don't plan on changing it haha
Ok, I looked up some pics of your hood in your thread. I think I'll copy the hell out of that!
I figure someone here might get a kick out of this:

GPS and some OBD2 inputs gives me sexy graphs and a google maps printout.

Proto, I just read your comparison of wrenching on the E30,36, and 46. AWESOME writeup, thank you!!
So that cowl area above the rear of the engine on the E46 comes off and out of the way quite easily, huh? Maybe I will have to mess with an E46 next...
Thanks! Yea I try to write and put down as much info from my head as I can for my benefit. If other people get something out of it, I'm happy. I get a lot of hits/feedback on the hydro handbrake article ironically.
The E46 is just a bigger E36 where BMW made a ton of things easier but conversely made everything engine wise much much harder. Yank the motor, go play.

Yeah, it seems like maybe the best swap prospect.. (E46 that is)

eeey data log overlay on video! I've now duplicated what tons of other off the shelf products do lol.

That is sweet! I'm going to watch that video about 20 times more.
Don't watch too hard. You'll see everywhere I'm screwing up.

So after 14 years of never owning one. I finally have a garage. And now I have no money to buy car parts

Safe to assume that garage comes with a new house? Congrats!
