Bits are nearly all back on. Swapping out the old steering wheel it came with for a proper 1970's racing Alpina wheel as per the photos.

Thanks, I bought a ported head on line May last year looking at building a B34 engine for my 633. It has been decked by about 0.8mm so CC's at 54cc's as against a standard B34's 58cc's and a B35's 64cc's. See the photos below. The B34 race prepared head is on the left, my current race head is in the middle and the one on the right is a B35 head.

    The B34 race prepared head I bought has;
    1. new high performance double valve springs.
    2. Stage 3 porting.
    3. re-cut seats.
    4. new valve guides.
    5. Dbilas 290 deg 11.1mm lift camshaft. Appears to have equivalent lift to my current racing head cam but better duration.

The problem is clearance to my current high compression pistons. Will decide which head to place back onto engine in the next week or so.

Car should be back together in 2 weeks. After the blown head gasket I ended up with 2 new kids and this has turned my life upside down.

Swapping out the LSD for a fully locked diff and new springs are in.

Will look at a BMW race day run around Dec 15.

Car is back together. Next step.

    1. Wheel alignment.
    2. Dyno. We have a new head on the car with a 290 degree cam with what appears to be a better duration than that on the existing head.

I missed the end of November race weekend which piddled me off now end as it was only 35km away and the field was very interesting.

The blue and red striped 5 litre corvette to which I wanted to catch has improved his Sydney Motorsport Park times from 2.01 to 1.52. I had gone and improved mine from 2.02 to 1.55 thinking I'd caught the Vette! But no, it's like an arms race.

There was also a a great mix of cars from a Group A 1987 Toyota racer (2 litre) to a Ferrari Tesstarossa. There was also a BMW M6 (1986) in the field. He got his best time down to a 2.06 so currently and without further development I'm 11 seconds faster than this M6 racer around Sydney Motor Sport Park. Hopefully the dyno tune does not see hp go backwards (which can happen).

Here's the grid of the November race weekend.

Dyno run up in the new year.

That's a sweet and throaty harmony. Hope to have my 74 done by this coming summer; will definitely have to get a header for Vic.

The coupe guy has sent me the CSL rear wing, the front air splits and the rear roof hoop. Still in halves given shipping internationally but will get these on the car in the next 3 months. Pics to follow.

Front strut packers in place. Changes geometry of front suspension permitting a little more speed through corners.

Here's the new E9 CSL racing rear wing, duck tail, roof hoop and front air splits that need to be placed onto the car.

The rear wing and duck tail were cut for packaging but, My E3 2 door racer is wider than a standard E9 CSL so I'd need to extend these by some 2 inches anyway.

The car will go to the dyno this week. Changes are a better head with an extra 2mm lift on the cam and an extra 0.5 on the compression ratio. Will run standard 98 octane fuel (to Australian Octane Standard)

    Hopefully, more hp, more torque.

Engine re-build complete and car back together. Need to tune webers as fuel to air ratio way off so losing hp, running too rich. May need to re-jet and re-choke. Finding the right expert may be difficult. Will run later this month and test new lap times v's old to see if we have made any gains.

Track day this month for testing. Hopefully new suspensions setup helps. Need a re-dyno tune and perhaps to re-choke the webers as she is running far too rich. Air/Fuel at 10:1 in stead of around 13:1.

    Will go-pro the track day.

Rear Strut Tower Brace in and fitted perfectly. Hopefully it makes a difference.

Now, over the next 2 to 3 months, I'll get the batwing body kit (roof hoop, rear duck tail, rear wing and bonnet splits) on. The front spoiler is already on the car and comes from the same batwing kit from the coupe-guy.

    Body kit to go on over the next two months. Here's what I've got;

    1. Duck tail from the E9 Batwing.
    2. Rear wing from the E9 Batwing.
    3. Roof hoop strap/spoiler from the E9 Batwing.
    4. Front air splits.

See photos below. The front air splits will go on no problem. The rear duck tail appears to fit well with the rear wing uprights moulded to fit over and secure the duck tail. The roof hoop strap/spoiler is too narrow and will need to be cut and widened.

So hopefully all fitted and painted from Feb to March.

The duck tail is too narrow and needs to run from boot lid (trunk) edge to edge. It came cut so I'll get 38mm added to it to ensure it fits properly.

    A few more shots;

I'll need to join the horizontal section of the rear wing but as it came cut for ease of posting, it makes it just as easy to add the extra 38mm or so I'll need.

Racing stripes have arrived. As the car is silver and about the same length as an E21 3 series should not look too dissimilar from the car in the photo below. Went the colours shown below.

I'll get the body kit off for fibre-glassing this month and installed next month.

    Stripes on hopefully this month.

Front Wind Splits now secure and in place.

Getting the alpina stickers sorted ready for application.

Ducktail is 38mm too narrow. Will widen, then place vertical fins then join the rear horizontal blade. Will do the fibreglassing myself.

Started with the stripes. Should finish this weekend but need to go to the race-car supply shop and pick up two new whit square/number sets. It's in the way. So I'll move the numbers and white square down and back, out of the way. At the moment the lower blue tripe sits about 10mm down over the top of the numbers so not a huge move.

The stripes are for an e28. My E3 has the fold in the side lines lower down so I'll put a stripe each side of the fold line. Then onto the fibreglassing for the rear wings and hoop strap. They'll test me.

Stripes Finished. Into interior door cards (where rear doors would have been) next and batwing setup as well. May take a few months.

THe stripes are not perfect but hey, they were for an early 3 series and this is a 2 door E3 racer. I don't think correct size/length stripes exist for this car. It's 330mm shorter than a standard E3.

I'll place the race numbers back on. The white backing squares stripped the paint which is a pain but to be fair, the car was home painted prior to me buying it. This will do for a semi-flash look while racing. I've got 2 new white squares and number sets which will cover most of the paint damage.

    - - - Updated - - -

Warm up during placement of stripes, to move car. Don't panic, temp gauge disconnected at moment. Vid post 5 mins of warming.

Time to work on the race car and get her ready for a few events.

    1. Fix brake master cylinder leak.

    2. New wheel bearings all around. Front left is throwing grease so time to do them all.

    3. Rear door cars to remove some of that interior un-completed look.

    4. I've got access to a Group A camshaft. Not as big as the CATCAMS 318 degree cams but should help. I need to check valve clearances first. If they are not there, I may be better of selling this engine and building a better one from scratch.

    5. 2nd race harness to go in.

    6. Fit fire extinguisher.

    7. Finally I'll fit the batwing E9 body kit. Time to get this finished.

    8. My 4 gauges are not hooked up. So time to place sensors and get these working. Oil temp gauge first off of the rank.

Photos to come over the coming weeks.
