INPA values
Hi,
Please see the images (all recorded at idle). Did "Techron" before doing this. New air filter and fuel filter, new bosch plugs and new O2 sensors (pre cat). The HLM values are increasing as i accelerate (cleaned MAF sensor also).
- The roughness values, do they look ok?
- The temp gauage is on the 1/4th level (after blue range) at 55 degrees outside (even after 15 miles traffic). My VW Passat goes to middle within 5 minutes. It used to go to middle during summer.
- Exhaust smell is not quite ok. Like more burning or something. Car gets 20 mpg in town with regular fuel. Thought of doing a fuel injector cleaning.

Roughness is acceptable
Petrol Adaption appears to have been just reset
Padel (Peddle) doesn't matter / can't tell anything
Analog -- coolant too cold. radiator outlet sensor failed.
digital -- normal for idle
FGR -- cruise control
On several of those screens, there is more pages of data. That's the green arrow in the right/lower. "Page-Down"
Forst thing is to get the engine running at the correct temp (replace thermostat) and fix the radiator outlet sensor. It might just be unplugged.

Thanks Randy...Mainly i didn't knew that "Page down" option.
Radiator outlet sensor, i cant find it. Seems this car don't have it? I checked on the outlet at the bottom, saw pictures of other cars and my car don't have it. Weird. DME shows that. It is not disconnected, but no sensor there. Only sensor on radiator is the double temperature switch for the AC.
The thermostat, can i use one from NAPA or OEM is preferred? I recently did VANOS. It was much easier at that time .
Did you ever did the fuel injector cleaning? ( i mean remove it and clean the micro filter, then test the spray pattern?)

Interesting. INPA isn't known for showing values for non-existent sensors. I was under the impression that all cars with the MAP cooling had this sensor. Hmmm, maybe it's E46/E39 only.
Many say OEM. I'm not that fussy. Being a heated thermostat, your choices will be limited.
Oh, and if I suspect injectors, I either send them to a professional, or just replace them.... depending on time, cost, and expected results.

Even DIS shows -48 there. I checked the DME wiring diagram and no connection for this.
The stuck open or partially stuck open thermostat can make engine run rich right? That can make the burning smell on exhaust also. Also low mpg
Nothing wrong with injector or no misfire or idle issues. Since the procedure seems easy, thought of trying it.

The above shows all temperature sensors

Checked the wiring..Please see below. Do they go some where?

Some wiring missing? I don't have a separate temp display inside. May be it is for that?
Can this -48 showing thing might be causing the thermostat to be in OPEN position by the DME?

Reason: Added more pictures..

I know this is an ancient thread, but I am having the same problem. Outlet Coolant Temp in INPA is -48deg C. When I clear the codes, there is usually one in there for low coolant temp. (It never causes the CIL light to come on). I’ve done some other searches and haven’t found much either. Does this actually read from the aux fan switch? Real OEM refers to it as “Double Temperature Sensor” so is that the double part? Sends signal to the aux fan and also the DME?

In my case, Our cars don't have it. Seems the interface is designed as common for other models also. No need to worry.

Perfect! Thank you! I can cross it off my list--one less thing to fix!!
