    Car has power but no crank, no start, nothing. Its dead when I turn it over

    2000 bmw 740I'll and it won't start. It has power and almost fully charged, when I turn the key to start it, its completely dead, no clicking and no crank nothing, I was told it might have something to do with the alarm anti theft system not allowing the car to start, everything on the car works though, all electronics, navi,lights...etc any ideas?

    No sadly but the car will turn over anxd turn the accesories just not the motor

    wut? You told us before that it wouldnt crank or start.

    Now it does crank?

    Check the fuel pressure while cranking.

    no crank, turn the key and nothing happens, I think its the starter

    Could also be the neutral safety switch. Try starting it in neutral.

    Without a 2d key it's hard to know whether or not the chip in the key died. It would produce those results. Was it working and then stopped?

    What's EWS? Do you guys think it could be the starter? What's the cheapest way I can get a replacement key, what's weird is I have the new style 2001 key which I thought it was for 01 and plus models only, can anyone confirm that ?

    EWS is the anti theft system.

    Get the $25 valley key from the dealer that starts the car.

    Even if the starter is bad you can still hear the relay click when started

    Yes diamond style keys can 2nd half of 2000 production

    Is there a way I can disable ews? The valet key is only $25? Also, doesnt the car still crank with the anti theft? Also how would I know if the motor is locked up?

    OK, UPDATE: Starter is defintely bad but the reason it went bad was because the idiots I bought the car from kept cranking and cranking and starter overheated. However, thats still NOT my problem. This is whats happening: When I put the key in the ignition and turn it once, twice whatever, as soon as I turn the key, the alarm goes off(but its super super quiet) you literally have to be in a closed garage with NO noise to hear it, but yet the alarm goes off as soon as you turn the key, what does this all mean?

    It means that the alarm is still armed. You should be able to start the car by using the emergency method described in the User Manual. Get in the car, shut the doors, turn the key to position II and wait for 15 minutes without turning the key back or opening the doors.

    how do i diasable or bypass the alarm though? Should the car still crank though or no? Because I think it should but the starter is bad now because the previous owner cranked the hell out of it

    No when EWS is engaged it does not crank!

    My $ is still on an alignment of the EWS and DME, should cost no more the $100 at the dealer

    my car is about 50 miles from the dealer so I have NO way of getting it there, and what does this alignment thing mean or do? Why is the alarm so fant, would the valet key help or do I still need to this get this alignment done

    Tried everything, still nothing now all I have left is to try a new key

    talked to the dealer today and they said it def. does not sound like an EWS alignment issue, This has to be something minor, car ran perfectly fine a week ago and now the alarm issue out of nowhere: So far I tried:

    Disconnecting Battery, Charge battery, keys lock/unlock doors, tried starting in NEUTRAL.... Anything else??? Im going to get a new key tomorrow, see if that helps. Which is prob wont

    Welcome here. Did it just happen one day or had there been work done on the car? Has the battery been run down lately? No crank is often related to a bad battery or having one run down while working on the car causing issues with the anti-theft system.
