It's that simple of a question. I put the car up for sale, but if it doesnt move with in the month I need to get cracking on it to be ready by spring.
I am nearing the end of gathering all the parts I've wanted for my car and I have an s52 here in that pile.
My S50 has 100K, is running very strong and pulls hard. If I swap in the S52 in place of the S50, will I notice ground breaking power or what? Whats the pros of this swap? Theres alot of OBD1'ing an s52 96-99 car on the net, but not much of putting the S52 into the 95 chassis. (same results I suppose)
For the record the S52 has 134K miles, a few more than my S50.
SO convince me either way. I have the turner water temp harness in my shopping cart on the web site. I want to know more.
Not unless the S50 is broke. And then you are putting a engine with more unknown miles in there.
If I were to do it, I'd pull the pan, check the bearings, replace the oil pump and pickup at a minimum. Or in reality, if I had to do it. I'd rebuild the S52, then slap the supercharge on it. I mean it is .2L bigger...
But no, you won't feel an earth changing difference. In fact, it will fell like it's a bit slower revving on the top end. (due to the more over square design of the S50 vs S52)
No matter where you go, there you are...
Does your S50 have updated retainers?
Remove S50, replace with S54
No the S50 isnt broken, It was stock when I bought it, so Im assuming nothing has been revised. Its a 5/95 build date.
The S52 was from a 97 auto, tranny is still on even. I got it from a weisco piston rep at his house, not a rando who wanted to meet at a neutral point.
After seeing this, if it doesnt sell, I will probably just throw the 6 speed in with everthing else to drive it while I build or refresh the s52. I just want the best motor I have access to in the car.
So you want to sell the car but if you don't you're going to dump more money into it? Kinda opposite ends of the spectrum.

Yea that's pretty much it. Bought it w/ big plans. Then almost tripled my incone and now i want into an E46M again. Over the last 8 months though I've been saving parts, close to 6K worth and I look at it like this. Dumping 6K into an 8K car doesnt make a 14K dollar 1995 vehicle. So if I can sell the car for 8 and the parts for 6 I can gain that income back and toss it toward an E46. I won't give the stuff away though, so if I dont find buyers, I want the best E36 I can make, so here I am.
No.
Spend the $ on F/I.
