    Fuel Leak FRONT Right.....

    Hi There,

    Been awhile...Been busy making movies...hehehe

    Anyhoo,

I have had a leak since summer. For the WHOLE summer, I thought it was the windshield washer rez leaking.....So I let it go and not think anything of it. Fast forward a few months to today....

Every so often when I start the car....There is STILL a puddle of liquid under the FRONT right passenger side.....BEHIND the fender liner....On the other side of the washer rez.

So i placed a towel down to see what color the liquid is. It was clear...but the smell is unmistakable. It was fuel! All this time!!! But the gas needle never moves....

So every once i a while...when i start the car...i guess pressure or whatever forces fuel out from SOMEWHERE behind the front right fender wall...

The leak looks to be VERY close to the right of the washer rez behind the fender liner.....when it leaks...it looks like its raining under there!

What exactly is located back there to corrode or break ???

    Thank you!

    xoxo

I can't think of anything under the liner that is anything to do with the fuel system. The secondary-air system is near there, but it is connected to the exhaust system rather than the fuel system.

Another thing confuses me - if the puddle was still there in the morning, it can't be fuel, that would have evaporated pretty quickly!

No no no...The puddle only appears when the car is first started.....it eventaully evaporates after a while...

The rain drops of fuel ( creating puddle on ground ) are coming from where the two or three 8mm bolts attach the BOTTOM part of the fender liner to the car body.

How is the fuel fed into the engine??

Starting from the REAR....from the tank...through the fuel lines....into the fuel filter....into some more lines prolly......then into the engine right????

So i'm thinking SOMETHING between fuel filter & lines leading into engine is outta whack. I replaced my fuel in may 2011 right before bimmerfest west.

are there fuel lines running BEHIND the fender liner, leading into the engine ???

I just did my fuel filter and would think if one of those rubber lines cracked or was leaking it would be under that plastic cover and could run to any point to leak. So if it were leaking at one of those lines the fuel could just be finding it's lowest or easiest spot to come out. The leak spot is not always at the point of origin. Start following it back. You'll find a rotted spot on a fuel line or the weakest link...a rubber deteriorated hose. Good luck.

Hi, what was the resolution to this?
I have the same issue now with a 2001 Sport. Puddles up close to right front tire when started. I think I can see the dampness on what I assume is one of the fuel lines when I look under the hood on that side.
    Did you fix this?

I think I have located where the leak is.
Whenever leak is happening, in picture below the tube/hose is damp.
Is this the the main fuel line? It's located on passenger side of engine compartment.

This same thing happened to me years ago. I just snugged up the clamp and it has been fine since.

Was it puddling up underneath before you tightened clamp? But also intermittent (i.e. didn't always leak)?

The moment I noticed it when starting and pulling out of my parking spot there was a large puddle of something which turned out to be gas. I pulled it back in popped the hood and found it leaking from that clamp. Tightened it up and it hasn't leaked since. This was many years ago and I still own the same e38...

Looking at that diagram, I think it's the 26-4-11 junction.
It basically has a 180 degree curve.
