I recently had my 840 smog twice locally in Silicon Valley. Failed Low speed Emissions after Seafoam and very long drive. Was close. Engine almost smelled like a rich fuel mix.
The shop I used to diagnose a possible fix (FastLane) offered a direction of motor and not the usual Emission actors (Cats O2 Sensors etc..). Car has oil near the plugs and evidently needs New Valve Cover Gaskets, ignition coils, Intake air boot. Not much of that hits the exhaust but it is work needing being done. I decided to not use this shop for that work. I guess I would like another opinion for the emissions work needed and/or a shop that can do that which Fastlane found and other emission fixes also needing being done too.
Does anyone have a good repair spot here in SV that can help me get set for smog passing?
Thanks

My 840 had LOTS of oil in the spark plug wells. It was running really bad. Changed the valve cover gaskets, new plugs and coils (they were original to the car) and now it's running great.
it would help if you would post the Emissions Test results... the numbers will reveal what to focus on.
Cracked intake air boot would cause a rich mixture, especially if it is after the MAF
Or
Move out of California
*** --> Move out of California <-- *** There is A LOT of that happening... six homes(families) on this one block where I am have left California in the last year.
Getting the intake up to par is probably in your future. The rubber parts become hard or crack over time. They may need replacing.
