    Vibration when car at idle

When I come to a stop at a light or stop sign, and am sitting there idle, I get a vibration in the car. Sometimes I can barely feel it in my seat, other times it will actually make a rattle noise and I can kind of feel it in my brake as my foot rests on it.

Nothing insane... but it's there. The second I hit the gas, gone. And it seems to be worse in the beginning after I start the car and slowly kind if dissipates after the car has been running awhile.

2006 325i with 118k miles. No warning lights, ALL maintenance is up to date at all times. I want this baby to easily break 200k+ miles so just thought I'd ask to see if anybody had an idea.

Minor? Don't worry about it? Something I can fix myself?
Schedule an emergency appointment tomorrow morning and take it in... OMG the car is going to explode? Just call and say hey, and pay the $90 to have them look it it?

    Thanks.

BMW engines are not the smoothest at idle. If it is very slight, then probably nothing to worry about. What is the RPM at idle, and is it steady!

Possible motor mount issue if it is at idle and goes away on acceleration. They also had problems with motor mount bracket bolts breaking on the passenger side. Let us know what you find.

It idles around 1200-1500-ish (or close to, I'd have to go out and double check)... but it is definitely steady during idle. The only time it's not is maybe the first 30 second I start her up on a real cold morning, it can flutter some, but then 30 sec. later it's perfectly steady and remains so the rest of the time I'm driving.

Yep, you are not the first to suggest this. I think I'm going to go ahead and replace all the motor mounts and see how it does. Probably won't get around to it until maybe this weekend or next week sometime (depending on how hard it is)... I'll definitely update the thread at that time though with my success.

Wow, that is too high for idle!!!! Should be between 600 and 700. Get the codes pulled and do a diag.

You might try running some Techron through as well, I would do a bottle of Techron Fuel System Cleaner in each of your next two tanks of gas. It might just be deposits or clogged injectors making the engine run a bit rough.

It may be that... I honestly don't know. Let me go start it and come back and let you know.

Decided I'll pick some up... can't hurt. I found it dirt cheap. I am still going to inspect my motor mounts though.

Okay, you're right. Sits basically right at 700. I was thinking of my race bikes, they idle around 1500.... my mistake.

Anyways, just started it, off a cold start (about 30 degrees here) the rpms move around a little for about 15-20 seconds then settle in at 700. I didn't have the vibration just then either (well I did, but SUPER mild)... it's normally after I go drive and make my first stops... only while I'm idling.

Believe it may be the motor mounts on the passenger side. I'll know more in a day or two once I get in there and check them.

I just bought my 09 335i CPO two weeks ago. My rpm at idle is normal about 600. However I feel vibration as well when the car is at idle at red light or I put the car to P. The vibration is not that bad but just made me feel uncomfortable. Should I just ignore it or I should take into the dealer to check it out? Thanks in advance!

Some vibration is always there, some feel it others don't notice. If your teeth are shaking, check it out, otherwise just normal.

Lol that's hilarious. It's definitely not that bad. I can at least clearly feel it myself or if I put my hand on passenger's seat.

My 06 325xi does the same thing, only really noticeable on cold mornings as well. I took it to the dealer and they said its nothing out of the ordinary. I'm sure you're all good

    hello,

Funny that you mention the passenger side. My 09 335i shakes at idle and the passenger seat is the one you feel the shake the most. Once I accelerate, the shaking stops.

exactly! when i put my hand on the passsengers head rest i can feel it shaking.

not sure if this is normal or not.

I only feel it in drive, not in N or P. Gonna check the mounts this week.

I had this issue... vibrations in the car, rattle noise, and only in gear not park or neutral. I ended up replacing my deflection pulley. It sits on the alternator and part was about $50 at the dealership, $25 online. https://www.ecstuning.com/b-ina-part...287535860~ina/
