Question Change transfer case fluid, computer reset needed by BMW?

I changed my transfer case fluid on my 2004 X3 but the fault light keeps on coming on once in a while. It goes away for a while once I turn off the engine and restart it. But am I suppose to reset the transfer case/computer via the dealer?

    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks 02325!

How much are dealers and independent mechanics charging for the computer reset? I called my local dealer and they said $180! WTH?!?

Total Bimmerforum noob here, but can you please tell me when and how often the fault light turns on for ya? Also what gave you the inkling to want to replace the fluid?

The light turns on very intermittently and usually when I've driven for a while, like 60 miles or more. But as soon as I park and turn off the car it goes away when I restart the car.

And I changed it because it was recommended to be done around 90k miles. (Regardless of the so-called "lifetime" oil in the transfer case.)
