The chassis must always be regarded as a means to an end and never as an end itself

Since my powersteering is now all AN with a sealed container, the need for cooling is extra important since if it can't ooze out of the bottle, it'll blow out the rack seals. Knocked this guy out last night, pretty cool how comfortable I'm getting with doing this kind of work, only took a few hrs even though I made it fancier than I had to with the hex tanks
Its really fun when you don't have to look for something thats actually made to fit your car when you can just buy anything and make it fit or just make stuff completely from scratch. Pretty soon making stuff is the hobby and the car just facilitates that. I could never afford anything made for the car so I had to make everything.
It's fun but it's also just... possible! Learning to fabricate was like waking up out of the Matrix, it took my hobby to an entirely different world, rather than incrementally changing it. Now I'm just limited by my imagination. Before, it would always be a question of whether I could find something to bolt on or if I could afford to pay someone to make it for me. I can get a generic racing part, go see what it'll take to fit, and get on it. Rather than hoping it'll fit, trying, and if it doesn't, give up.
Indeed! I cannot imagine my life without a milling machine, lathe (both are small, entry-level import stuff) and a variety of welding machine/processes.
Regardless of the task at hand, when you encounter an obstacle, usually within 20-30 minutes, you've made the perfect- (ly acceptable/functional...) tool to continue with the job at hand.
Sometimes I'm more self-satisfied with the tools I've made to complete a job, than with the job itself.
I keep feeling like I need a lathe, but I don't know what size to get, and they are kind of damn expensive...
Check out bidspotter.com there are always CNC shops and other shops going under and you can get lathes and mills for DIRT cheap (I'm talking a limo sized lathe for 600 bucks). And it's usually really good stuff, cast iron 60s-80s shit that will last FOREVER. Hell I've witnessed large 4 axis HAAS CNCs go for under 10 grand routinely.
If I had room in my garage and didn't have a friend with a good sized lathe and mill, I would have had both long ago.

Had to put my turbo build on hold due to lack of motivation/slight depression due to annoyance and assholes. Been working on my Jeep instead. Finally finished my front winch bumper and now I'm doing the rear bumper with tire carrier.

Some random hardware from ACE to build the hinge for the tire carrier.

Just to wrap this up, the manifold's done other than some finishing touches like pressure reference bungs. Super happy with how it turned out. Due to the size of the throttle body (length) I had to change my plans of keeping the TB at the side like stock and moved it to the front. Still happy with how it looks, so relieved that I managed to pull it off, don't even care if it ends up making less power than stock :P
