For the pedal, just get the thermal arc pedal specifically for the 186. I got mine from IOC (Indiana Oxygen Comp) I think. Cheapest price on google shopping, free shipping. It was ~$180.

For the torch, a WP-9 has a small body and small consumables:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/12-WP9-Tig-W...item27d39ba8ac

They also have WP-17s (small body, large consumables) for $100 for the 12' as well. It's $30 more for a flex head(I've heard they can sometimes break).

The stock torch is a WP-26 - it's a freaking beast... but it does come with 4 different thumb controls if you didn't want to use the pedal.

The WP9 and WP17 are worlds different. Definitely go WP9 unless you need > 125A

Thermal Arc actually messed up and sent me 2... and the guy at the shop is hassling me to transport everything back to a UPS store (which I promptly told him NO). I told him this was a hassle for me to have to return goods I didn't order, and got "well you didn't pay for it." Yea no sh!t... but now I've got to do work to fix your mistake. Anyway... the welder is great. Best deal I've seen for a long time, and I've been looking.

I did try to do some aluminum welding way out of position this weekend on an OTA antenna I got... did not go well at all... But I think part of it got contaminated by vapor from the tape I was using for mock up. Wasn't going to weld at all after that... The other side was meh... stuck together, nothing to write home about. It was pretty thin square tubing to 1/8" flat bar, so it was difficult joining them together before the thin tubing would start to melt away.

Maybe because I've done so much MIG, I find steel pretty easy to pick up on so far, but haven't tried too much with aluminum. I really need to get a welding table and sit down and practice for a few hours.
Once you get going on aluminum you'll think steel is tough!

Happy New Year everyone. So I decided to dust off the welder this weekend and melt some pipes together to kick off 2014. My focus here is to make a boost creep resistant manifold. This is a prototype, lets see how it turns out. Feel free to chime in

Btw as of now your manifold on my car is boosting 12 psi with a 9 psi spring with only a downoipe. In thinking with a full exhaust she'll barely creep at all!

I'm surprised that you are still finding ways of organizing the pipe with smoother bends within the engine compartment.

I just googled an article that talked about 3D printing a design in order to test flow prior to fabbing a prototype. Are you using a computer to simulate/design the manifolds at this point or do you look at it and say "I think that could be smoother and still close to equal length if I bent it that way" and then test the airflow afterwards?

It's for the E36. Full exhaust and you should be fine.

No computer simulating here, I visualize it in my head and just start cutting and tacking. I've made so many so it's kinda second nature.

    Love the Vband entrance Otis!

By any chance can you measure the ID of the Vband turbine flange?

Nice work Otis. Is this going to be for a twin turbo set up?

Thanks, the 2" diameter is equivalent is x-sectional area as a T3 open flange, however should flow more being round. I assume there is a larger v-band housing as well to compete with the T4?

Will there be room for an airfilter or pre-turbo piping with this top-mount manifold??

The GT28/30/35 in Garrett speak all use the same inlet flange. The GT42 uses a larger one. No idea why no one makes a Vband housing for a GT40 turbo!?!?!

I think Precision only offers one size of Vband housing, but I havent looked in a long time.

The flex heads do break eventually if you move them around often enough.... Dont see why they are so expensive for you guys.. we buy em in for $15~ each for wp 17 and wp 26 sizes.

They are just twisted copper tubes inside.... the copper tube eventually fatigues and breaks when you move them too much. Ill grab a photo next time I replace a broken one and cut it open.

You already had me at twin 3-1 collectors with tight smooth packaging.

Then you had to go and add the double v-band turbine housing to the pic?

Where have I been? Astral projecting.

Almost done, need to configure waste gate placement.
This might be the first E36 top mount v-band manifold?

Nothin like a weekend in the garage with few beers wearin flip flops.
