Although your build went a completely different direction than I had expected (and had hoped for), I admire your diligence.

Man, this car is awesome. I live in Nor cal too! I live vicariously through threads like these because I doubt I'll ever be able to do this to my car. Lol. Everything you did is absolutely great sir. Well done.
Waaaay more time and labor then money my friend
Thank you sir. I know my car is not for everyone, as I had a very specific vision for mine. I wanted there to be no-frills, function over form, have an industrial feel with no/little fabric in the interior and as little clutter/gizmos as possible. I can certainly say I achieved that.
I can't tell you how wrong you are (no offense meant though!). There's sooo much knowledge and many helpful members here. You have the ability to do anything you ever dream of as long as you're dedicated, can plan, and adapt as you go.
Any concerns with the wiring in the interior exposed?
I'm looking to pull the covers off of mine and possibly revamp where they route.

None the wiring is really exposed. It's actually protected more than in stock form, which just uses that cloth wrap.
I wrapped all my wiring that isn't hidden behind panels with a silicone self-fusing tape. It's water proof, voltage proof to some crazy number, and very sturdy unless it's slit open by something sharp.
Wish I would have read this while I was in North Carolina working would have been worth seeing
I really wanna see brushed black metallic vinyl on E36, do it I think that will be good, your car is unique
wow. great thread

great build man ! hope i get this done to mine !!
Made some small final changes to the e36 aluminum door panels (Note speaker placement on fronts, rears have door handle trim glued in place since the rear doors aren't flat like the fronts are) :

Hey! Walnut Creek is where I bought my E36 from! I am honored! :P Very nice job bro! Mine's my project too! I'm not going that in depth but its still big for me. I can only imagine what yours feels like! She looks amazing!
Upgraded my door panel screws to Torx socket caps. Button heads were already starting to strip out. These are so much nicer

Also ripped out the interior, hung the wires, and did a whole day of prep for painting on Saturday. This morning I started painting the floor with some black industrial non-slip epoxy paint. Rolled the final coat and it's now just drying, going to look so good inside!!
(I bought twice as much as I actually needed, if anyone wants to buy the other can. Way better than spray painting the inside of your car which will scuff and flake.)

Not my style, but your car looks good. Keep those updates coming.
Alright, new Motion Motorsports side mounts are in for the seats, and I have the interior reassembled except for the pass seat and glovebox. Looks smashing, so much better. The whole interior flows sooo nice with the black paint, I love it.
Also figured while I have the glovebox out, I would do the footwell light mod on both sides up front. I've had the parts for a year and just keep forgetting about doing it. New pics soon!
Where are the pictures!!!! You said soon its been hours

Rushed pics, it's going to take me a while to adjust to the wide angle lens. Interior is all re-assembled and footwell lights are in and functional. I'll try to take a few when it gets darker.

i like it for the ease of cleaning
Just to cover any questions, the footwell lights were done using all OEM parts, using this DIY:
http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...ootwell-Lights
I used 18 gauge wire and T-taps to make it reversable (and avoid chopping stock wiring)
i love this car so much...seriously how many sharpies were sacrificed?
