    My 325i Vert Thread

I figures it was time to finally start a thread for my car. Got the car from my dad about 4 years ago. He bought it from a friend who had it sitting in a carport for about 10 years. It needed ALOT of work when he got it. Now its my turn to make it the way I want.

How it looked after my dad finished it.

I still gotta paint the basketweaves and get the tires mounted to them. But i'm gonna try to sell them when I get the others installed.

Finally got my car back from the body shop.

    2012-10-17_11-44-12_901 by E30Bass, on Flickr

Started back up where I left off before the body shop got it. Finished relocating my battery to the trunk. Painted spots in the trunk where there was bare metal.

My dad found more pictures of the car when he brought it home.

Found her in a carport where she sat for 6 years. She was in rough shape.

Finally changed out the stock open diff for a 4.10 lsd I got for $65. Next step is to cut the rear apron off the donor car for the rear bumper swap.

Today was a very productive day. I cut the rear apron of a donor car and got it all cut up to be welded on my car.

$125 gets me the rear section from a 325 coupe.

I finally got around to welding up the rear apron. I also decided that I want to run dual exhaust on the car so I made a cut out for the tips.

    DSCF0033 by E30Bass, on Flickr

Alot of tack welds to hold it on and sheet metal screws that have been tack welded to prevent them from backing out.

    DSCF0034 by E30Bass, on Flickr

Made a filler piece to hide the gap between the apron and original fender.

After many months I finally got back to work on the car. Finished the final welding on the rear apron. Ran into an issue with my instrument cluster not wanting yo illuminate when I turned the last lights on. Found that it was a problem with the main cluster board. Good thing I had two other clusters in the spare parts bin. My next step is to wire up a switch to roll all four windows down at the same time and hit the body work hard. My goal is to have the car done by the end of May.

Got any more pics of the welding?

Also I'm thinking of doing something with the front end of mine, just not sure what yet.

I'll post up some pics when I get home. Been busy sanding the clear coat off the car getting it ready for paint.

Got home and went straight to work sanding the car down again. Its taking shape pretty quickly.

After finishing the welding I seam sealed all the way aroung the apron and undercoated it also.

After much time and sweat, the car is finally sanded down. Now its time to fill in the minor dings and get the body perfectly smooth. Hope to have it ready to go to paint by the end of March.

Wow. My hat's off to you. It takes a lot of know-how and courage (and tools) to pull off that rear-end surgery. Simply awesome.

I'm not crazy about the unfinished look under my rear metal bumper but I can't say I could pull off such an ambitious swap. Subscribed.

Thanks guys I will try to make daily updates. Today I got all the little dings filled and smoothed. Then filler primer was sparyed over those spots. Only thing left to do is to sand the car down smooth.

The car is completely sanded and all the dings are filled and sanded with 220 grit sandpaper. Tomorrow the car will turn from black to grey as it gets its first coat of primer. Gotta clean all the paint dust off and get it prefectly clean.
