I would try the 3.46 first. You will get wheelspin in 1st and 2nd if you want it, but it is easily controllable because the centrifugals just don't produce massive torque and the power delivery is entirely predictable.

I ran a 3.64 LSD with S52, Vortech T-Trim intercooled and at 16 psi and making over 460 rwhp, and did not think it was too much diff except due to high rpm on longer highway trips. My E36 was heavier than your E30 and the 255/40/17 tires may be wider than what can be fitted to the E30, but you will have less horsepower.

The 2.97 would be fine with the torque of a turbo, or would be fine with the centrifugal if you wanted the car to be a comfortable highway cruiser at the expense of some grunt around town. I would like to go to that long gearing now that I have a turbo, but while I had the centrifugal, I went progressively shorter, starting with a 3.23 then to a 3.38 and then to a 3.64.

    Agree 100%.
Either a 3.38 or 3.46 would be the best fit.
its not worth losing the top end and driving at 5,000 rpms on the highway with the 3.91.

i'm 6 speed swaped. The E46 6speed is the exact same as the euro 6 setup, you just need a E46 flywheel and clutch, and a custom DS.

Two-thirds of the way through X you are one-third of your way to Z. I will keep Y out of this, because the time it usually ends up taking is laughable.
    Welcome to the fun!

I wanted the 6 speed while supercharged and running the 3.64. I decided to put the $2500 conversion cost towards a turbo kit along with the proceeds from selling the supercharger and related parts (like that built 3.64 diff).

I am not so anxious for a 6 speed now that I am running a 3.15 LSD, and think I will be even less interested if I go down to a 2.93 LSD (I had one in my 99 528i and thought it offered pretty relaxed highway cruising). If someone gave me the 6 speed and all the related parts, I would probably install it, but doubt I will buy one now.

Got power hungry after being in Phil's and Gregs turbo cars.
Long story short, we installed it on Dans (irishdan9) 94 325i and I went the turbo route,

Working on an itb retrofit. The f/i setup will have to be pieced together.

We have a 75 2002 that we are considering turboing. Won't be until next year. I have a top mount T3 manifold for it and would probably use Megasquirt.

I know nothing about turbo but I am obviously willing to learn and the engine I am stuck with is the M10 and I can say 104hp in 85 still isn't enough hp so what it is running now wont be near anything acceptable. I know there are definitely no kits so stuff will need to be custom fabricated.

Easier thing for most E30 318i owners is to swap in a 190 hp M52 or 240 hp S50 or S52.

Yeah that is what I have seen most people do, just figured boost would be so fun lol and the m10 was rebuilt so it can handle the boost.

When you say "we" are you referring to a shop you work at?

No, I am just a DIYer who supercharged and then turbocharged my E36 in my garage. My stepson is working on the 75 2002, and I would help turbo it. Butters Stoch is a real mechanic and has a real shop.

Phil is DIYer with a vast amount of knowledge in BMWS. Probably more than most that do work in a shop.

Oh, I beleive it. I was just wonering if there was a shop close enough to me that dealt with that kind of stuff. Would have been interested in stopping by.
