OBD II Not communicating w/ CA smog machine

    Hello all,

Im new to Cali and a new owner of a 2001 z3 m coupe w/ dinan software, dinan CAI and Dinan Exhaust. Love my car, went all the way to NC to get her. Well went to a local smog/repair shop and they couldn't get the smog to communicate with the OBD. I'm told I need to go to a dealer cuz they have better equipment? Any suggestions? I'm located in SAn Diego if anyone can help, pleassssse. I've gone through this before and had to sell my beloved sti that I brought here from NYC. 646 246 9679.

There was a recall on the S54 software for OBDii compatibility. I'm not sure how your Dinan will interfere with this.
But before going that route, check to make sure the cap is on the underhood diagnostic connector. The two are daisy chained, with the underhood taking precedence. If the cap is missing, OBDii will be dead.

If you disconnected the battery or cleared codes from the system before
going in for test, it will take 50+ miles for the on board computer to reset
before it will communicate with the smog test computer. This is usually the
number 1 problem for not communicating. If this is the case, there are no
other programing or reprogramming required other than putting miles on. If
you had a check engine light on and then cleared any codes, when the
computer resets the light and code will come back and then it will not pass
smog anyway until what ever is triggering the code is fixed.

There is a recall to reprogram DME, then you will have to have Dinan reinstalled.
