Becker Bavaria C professional RDS help

I have just removed all the custom ICE from my car and fitted the original system back in. When I turn the head unit on it shows the numbers in the display for about ten seconds then switches off.
The led is flashing while it's off.

Does anyone have any info this radio? Looks like I may have to open it up and see what's wrong with it.

Actually I can just about see the word code in the 2nd screen but have no idea what the code is. Is there an unlock service available using the serial numbers ?

the unlock code is a 4 digit number on mine - not sure if thats always the case. Its often displayed on the side of the actual radio, (the hidden part) either printed or written on a sticker, or sometimes just marked in magic marker. often a 4 digit number

Check the owner's manual. They usually write it in there for handy reference.

to bad I am not now in Poland. I have the manual for the RDS radio.
If you need the code I can get you it. You would just have to give me pictures of the radio, the codes.

Thanks guys. I used an online calculator for the code but I tried a code I had written But it was wrong . I've waited for over an hour with the ignition in position 1 (no led flashing ) it still says wait.
A manual for the system would be great!

I bought the head unit and the RDS unit, just need the amp unit now. I'm going to leave the after market speakers in place as they are all Orion competition class but fitted in the standard position apart from the door speakers. Should sound pretty good .... I hope.

looks better than the old Alpine unit it had in it.

Thanks. I'd like to know what model cd changer I need . The code was calculated from the last 4 digits of the serial number on the top edge of the unit starting BE-1801776****

Ok thanks, if I can't find one then I may contact you.

I still can't enter the code so I have removed the head unit, I read somewhere tha if left disconnected for 24hrs it asks for the code again. I'll give that a try. It also has some missing pixels so I need to pull it apart and fix that.

I need a standard gear knob if anyone has one, I'm trying to remove all the Schintzer stuff on the inside.

Contact eBay vendor Robmarrs for the correct cd changer. He will definitely be
able to help you with that. He is located west of London, in the Reading area. I
purchased a cd43 and compatible cd changer model PI, together with the correct cable and wiring, from him. Great guy to deal with.

Possibly , and also looking at the sticker on the cassete unit it reminds me of the Philips partnumbers 15 years ago when I was repairing things like this :-)

I installed a CD-43 in my E-31 in the US.
    I used the E-38, I-Bus, CD-Changer, installed in the after 8/98 E-38, US 7-Series. The E-38 CD-Changer P/N: 65-12-8-375-537 or 65-12-6-907-035 or 65-12-8-375-836

The formfactor of the E-38, I-Bus CD-Changer is identical to the stock E-31 M-Bus CD-Changer.

I included a short wiring changes document that may help with the installation of the I-Bus CD-Changer

    Thanks M6BigDog.

I have that CD player in my E38....I may borrow it if I can't find the correct player. I have 2 multi pin din cables where my Cd player should sit, I've only seen players with a single din cable in the past.

It looks as though the head unit runs to the CD player then from the CD player to the AMP and RDS unit in the compartment behind the seats.

A previous owner had removed all of that stuff, its taken some searching to fit it all, including the hinged compartment that houses the RDS and AMP units.

I was looking at the head unit earlier and a triangular spring contact fell out...took me 2 hours to remove the front, remove all the buttons and re assemble the damn thing ...it was a contact that had fallen out from behind one of the preset buttons.

Does anyone know the correct model CD changer number for my setup, very little info on the Becker Bavaria C professional RDS system online.

Use this info at own risk - Honda radios had the same 24hr wait before allowing new codes to be entered. what I did in the dealership was disconnect and take out the radio, connect the constant +12V and ignition +12v terminals to ground with the radio turned on. That discharges the capacitors and lets you try the code again right away. Probably did at least 20 radios over the years without issues, but I have no idea if it would work or be harmful to our radios.

Hi there, you might find something here that will be useful for the installation.

It has many installation documents covering many E31 stereos as well as other installation procedures

Thanks for the tips / link I'll give it a try.

Well I found the user manual, It was in the cars original owners handbook folder

It says it takes 15mins with the Key in ON position and to leave it switched on, the thing is, it wont stay on for more than 10 seconds. I read somewhere that's a security feature, you have a limited time to enter the code. If that's correct then I can't see how the thing will ever reset. Confused.

Seeing this (wonderfull) Bavaria C Professional fitted into the 8 series center console, only just made me realize that the layout of the 2 dot-matrix displays, exactly matches the OBC's.

Not sure if this was intentionally, but sure looks nice.

What's special about this unit and why didn't any US cars come with it? What is the slot at the bottom for? CD's? Almost looks like You insert a cartridge of some sorts. Do these play MP3's?
