Post All-new BMW M5 Sedan and M6 Coupe Now in US Showrooms

Woodcliff Lake, NJ – August 31st, 2012… The iconic BMW M5 Sedan and M6 Coupe went on sale in the US last week after a two year hiatus. They are more powerful, more athletic, more luxurious and more efficient than ever before. They join the all-new BMW M6 Convertible which first arrived in US BMW Center showrooms last month. For more than a quarter century, the BMW M5 and M6 have exemplified the luxury and daily versatility of a true BMW combined with all-out supercar performance.

The M5 and M6 are ultra-high-performance sports cars with exceptional dynamic abilities which have been carefully tuned by M engineers on racetracks around the world under all conditions. Simultaneously, the M5 and M6 bring new standards for daily driving comfort and features. To achieve these lofty goals, the new BMW M5 Sedan, M6 Coupe, and M6 Convertible share the most powerful engine ever fitted in a series-produced model from BMW M GmbH mated to a high-torque 7-speed M-Double Clutch Transmission (M-DCT). An innovative Active M Differential further splits power transfer between the rear wheels. This drivetrain, combined with extensive chassis and suspension upgrades ensure that the engine’s performance can be transferred to the ground.

Funny timing on this thread, I literally just sat in a new M5 at my local dealership here in San Diego.. I'm on the hunt for an M6 :-) Every picture you've seen online does not do this car justice, trust me!! Its actually very bold and aggressive looking in person. The interior feels and looks amazing, you get a very cockpit sense while sitting in the drivers seat. I found only one problem with the new M5 it doesn't have that glorious V10 the prior gen had :-)

I love it... and the thing runs like a bat outta hell! It feels huge though compared to my E39, and the electronic e-brake sucks... but damn is it fun and it hits triple digits like it's nothing!

Probably get shunned for this, but here goes...

The M5 looks kinda like the new Mustang.

I don't really care though; the way a car looks is far less important as how it performs. (Unless we're talking about a Pontiac Aztec or something) It's an M5, and should perform better than it's predecessors. The looks will probably grow on me in time, as most BMW's did. I do hate to see BMW lose any of the styling that they were know for, but will have to wait and see, when I get more, and better looks at it.

    Is there a touring!?!

*edit-After seeing more photos, the front end of the 5 looks really nice, and at least still has some BMW styling to it. The M6 convertible is DEAD SEXEH! Once you get rid of that ugly back-end it totally transforms the look. Maybe the best looking 6 ever.

New M5 torque=510 at 1500-5800 rpm WHAT!?! :O For that, I would drive it if it looked like an Aztec...

    The M5 looks phenomenal.

When the E60 M5 came out...I really didn't like it. It didn't hold a penny to the amazing E39 design. Honestly, on the road I couldn't tell an Accord apart from an E60. However this new F10 design is what the E39's replacement should look like. A true modernized evolution. Really awesome looking. The M6 also looks very nice. A 4000lbs+ car hitting 60mph in 3.7 seconds...thats just absurd. Wait until Dinan gets their hands on it.

What? Have you seen either in person? They look about as similar as a pontiac aztek and a Hummer H1.

    Mostly BMW's...
The M6 still looks like a whale's penis.

Plus no manual. I'd even take a look at what GM has to offer before buying an auto, sorry.

One of the few advantages of a small market. There was one sitting in the dealer last time I was there and for a moment I thought of asking if they'd be interested in trading it for a kidney!

I've performed PDI's on several F10 M5's and believe it or not, the thing feels faster than the SL65 v12tt mercedes (at least I felt like it did).. Maybe its the gearing as the 65 has a solid 200+ ft lbs more torque than the m5 and should be no comparison.

    They both look better.

And the M6 is slowly creeping away from the catfish look.

the new M6 doesn't even hold a candle to the E24 m6 in style, it still looks like a boat. It went from being a shark to a whale.

M6 should look more like this:
    http://luxvelocity.typepad.com/luxve...-x-design.html

That being said, I'm extremely excited for the F30 M3. F30 style seems to be more reminiscent of classic BMW styling.

The M6 looks phenomenal, but I'm not real delighted with the M5. Its kind of ho-hum.

The M6 definitely doesn't look like the original E24.. at all. I'm not a fan of these new F bodies either way.
