I'm attempting to pick up some momentum on this very long running project. The head is back from the machine shop, ported/polished with 3 angle valve job and TEP SS valves and dual valve springs. The chamber's CC'd at 63cc and pistons come above deck .020", with a .060" Cometic head gasket I'll have .040" squish and 8.8:1 compression! I expected slightly smaller chambers as the head has been decked from 129mm to 128.8mm.
I'm talking to an engine builder named Russ at Steve's Machine in Azusa, CA who seems to be pretty knowleable with m10 performance builds (thanks to Milotrain for the tip). I was looking at a high lift 280 cam they ground for Milotrain, but Russ thinks I'll need more cam for this build (I like where his head is at). I'll update when I have more info on a cam.
I also purchased MS3X for full sequential ignition (and possibly injection too but not sure there's as much benefit there), so I'm going all out now...
Kinda crazy, I just noticed that this is my machine shop, posted several years before I even found them or realized they were local to me. They did great work on my head on my head and block.

Alright gents, for those that have blazed the EFI/Megasquirt trail before me, can anyone give me some recommendations?
- I want to size my injectors to be able to handle up to 350 horsepower. This means at 43.5 PSI I need 71 lb injectors. At 60 PSI I would need 60lb injectors. I'm not yet finding a lot of options in a Bosch ev1 sized injector with this kind of flow rate that aren't ridiculously expensive, I'm wondering if there are any OE applications that can support this kind of power. Currently, it doesn't look like it.
- What types of adjustable pressure regulators are out there that are compatible with the 318i fuel rail? Layne mentioned barb fitting adapter to allow use of an aftermarket adjustable regulator, but I have yet to find one.
If keeping EV1 without adapters, then look or call RC engineering. I'm running RC 370cc on the M3 @50psi (3.5bar).
Bosch volvo turbo injectors (greens) are about 330cc and probably borderline replacements for what your wanting. Use RC or some aftermarket if can find them.
edit: not sure if fits the 318i rail, but the M3 rail looks similar; A pcar 3.5bar regulator plugs right in part number 0280160263 (Porsche 944-S, 2.5L DOCH 16V). There's also a 4bar version I've also from the Pcar's but the fitting is not plug and play.

I was planning on staying EV1 without adapters, but if I found an OE application that could supply the juice I'd consider adapters. I'll need injectors in the 600 to 700 cc range - not common in an ev1 OE application from what I'm seeing.
It looks like long EV6 injectors could also be a direct fit which means newer higher hp OE applications (like the VW 1.8t? still trying to figure out oe length on this application) could work without adapters. I get good pricing on OE
At one point I was considering EV21 or EV14 injectors in the stock CIS injector location (such as e60 m5 injectors) and running the stock e21 manifold, but then I'd have to modify the fuel rail due to pressure regulator interference. Not necessarily other than the fact I already bought a 318i manifold and fuel rail and planned to plug the old CIS injector holes. If I went that route, I'd consider a long nose EV14 injector in the CIS injector location (the pressure regulator mount on the 318i fuel rail interferes with the head in this configuration), and keeping my old e21 intake manifold which is already set up with a 65mm m30 throttle body. Hmmm, good food for thought, time to make a check list. All I'd have to do is fab up fuel rail mounts, TPS adapter, and my own idle control valve adapter (rather than the 02again jeep adapter). I put a lot of work in to smoothing and removing all casting lines and defects from my old manifold. I could skip all that work again. I wouldn't need to find another throttle body, adapt a new throttle cable, blast/clean/smooth/paint the new mani, or figure out an adapter for a fuel pressure regulator,
Autox, thanks for the tip on the porsche pressure regulators. That sent me down a path for some other options as well. As these regulators are all on turbo cars, I would assume they have a 1:1 vacuum/boost pressure rate, meaning if 0 is at 55psi (3.8bar), then they should raise pressure to 85psi at 20lbs of boost.
Here are a few other regulator options that should be direct drop on on the 318i fuel rail (and other '80's Bosch fuel systems)
Bosch 280160263 (Porsche 2.5L turbo) - 3.5 bar
Bosch 280160287 - 3.8 bar
Bosch 280160260 (Dodge 2.2L turbo) - 3.8 bar

Recent method I've used from photos.google.com is to right-click the image and select 'Copy Image address' (only works from Chrome, IE gives me bogus links.)

RC can do any cc rate with just about any connector and they definitely can do EV1 in a 750-1200 range for turbo cars. But these are all low impedance and if can would be best to use EV14 with high impedance setups that typically use high imp. Some systems require a injector driver box and some don't. Factory turbo cars from our era used low imp injectors and most will never flow that kinda fuel requirement without additional injector stages.
So EV1 RC's or move to EV14/16 is my vote.

Im using RC 1000 CC injectors, American brand. good injectors for the price. never had any problems with them, smooth idle, and a crap load of fuel when time to get on boost

I bought a Turbo Smart "FPR 800" fuel presure regulator, and brazed welded the bmw fuel rail to seal up were the FPR goes
45PSI is what they run at
and u need EFI,, forget about rising rate FPR's. it's all a outdated way of doing things,, MAP ECU is what u need if you can afford it and have the patients
That head is really pretty. It would almost be a shame to use it and get it all dirty/greasy.

The stock 318i FPR operates at 43.5 psi. What did you gain by using an aftermarket adjustable regulator set at 45psi?
Megasquirt (MS3X) is EFI - map based with full sequential fuel and spark. A rising rate FPR is not used for tuning and is not outdated, it is used to maintain a constant pressure ratio across the fuel injector as manifold pressure lowers (idle) or rises (boost). This is how a proper EFI system should operate, stock style pressure regulators are designed to do this. Even your turbosmart FPR 800 references manifold pressure for this reason.

If you have e85 available then you will eventually end up going this route and i would recommend sizing injectors to support e85.
I run volvo green tops from s60r they are 42lb/min. and support my 1.8@15psi with room to go. They would probably max out (90%duty cycle) at around 270-280whp)

So long time out of the game, wondering about the outcome of this project and if Josh is still around? Hope we didn't lose him, he was the Maestro of pushing the CIS envelope on E21's.
