E34 Keyless entry not working? Alarm goes off when battery is reconnected.

I have the OEM BMW Keyless entry module and remote in my car but i've never gotten it to work, it seems like my alarm never even engages because when i lock the car the red light never flashes yet if i unplug my battery and reconnect it my hazards go crazy which i assume is the alarm? Anyone have any experience with getting the keyless entry working on e34s?

I should also add that it does not let me set a code on the OBC

Can't speak to your alarm issues, but it is normal for e34's to flash their hazards when you reconnect the battery. It is not related to the alarm system.

I had something like this happening... it was a FUSE under the back seat behind the driver .. lift up the rear seat cushion and remove the black cover from the fuse block and examine the fuses..

Also, what year car? If it's the later Alpine alarm, you can try reprogramming it. I've had luck witht that when mine have stopped working for no reason.

I checked all the fuses and none of em are blown so it seems like its not that.

It's a 95 530, not sure if its the alpine alarm but here's a pic of it.

Yup, that's the one. Try the reprogramming procedure in the link I posted. Also, sometimes the chip can come loose inside the remote. Open it up and take a look to make sure it is seated properly.

yep i've tried that procedure before on the old unit and i tried it again on this unit and nothing. It seems like my alarm is completely disabled so maybe that might be it? I cant put a code on the OBC and when i lock it with a window down i can open it from the inside without the alarm going off.
