Thanks . I've put some miles on it now and it's running smooth as silk. I'll get it on the dyno ASAP.

Hi, just started scanning this thread. Fascinated by the programming and MTX. I programmed a bit in BASIC and UNIX "back in the day". I am heading towards obtaining my own diagnostics hardware/software and have learned a bit about DIS and INPA and have access to that. I have not purchased a PC yet but I thought the requirement for dedicated (switchable (?)) RS232 serial port on a PC was the only route to diagnostics. I have visited Brian in Wichita, KS and seen his IBM T30 setup and diagnostic system. I may be taking the quote out of context here and may be missing something huge but I was just curious about the "yellow head" and your "setup" for mapping. Thanks for helping me out...I should get back to finishing of my diff 3.15/driveshaft install instead of reading threads! Congrats on the Porsche! Cheers Matey!

The "yellow head" is for diagnostics and programming coding within the cars modules....for example you may want to allow alarm arming using your key as well as remote. You can do this by connecting to the car via the OBD socket and then selecting the appropriate control unit. You will see options for error clearing , coding etc . Some people say stay away from clone yellow heads but I have had no problems with mine.

The Moates emulators purely emulate an EPROM chip allowing me to edit the code on the fly .....Tunerpro is a neat software interface that allows you to make easy sense of the binary code with the chip. Once finished you burn the code to a blank EPROM and remove the emulators. You can drive with the emulators in place as they source power directly from the DME.

The yellow diagnostics head uses I.P to connect to the laptop rather than RS232 ...using RJ45 Ethernet port.

Ok, still need to do some reading to get the "big picture" for use of the "yellow head" will be asking more questions after researching! Thanks! Getting my 850 back on the road today! Maybe I get to visit across the big pond when my nephew gets married!

Sorry maybe I didn't explain properly. The Yellow head is an interface that converts the Data from the OBD port into data that the laptop can understand through it's network port. The software running on the laptop (DIS) is the same software that most people use without the yellow head interface.

If you use DIS on a regular laptop/PC with an RS232 port, you need an ADS interface to covert the OBD data into RS232 compatible data. Once connected and running the operation of DIS is identical. I just found the ADS interface and running DIS as a virtual machine on a laptop a bit messy and unreliable. Others have no problems.

I've been away from this forum for long time, busy working at restoring the 911. I got time a few months back to finally dyno the CSi. in the end with bored out exhaust headers, hi flow filters, Shrick cams and a tweak to the timing maps I managed to squeeze 417BHP out of it. I'm pretty happy with the end result.

Now it's time to remove all the wideband kit and emulators and get it back to looking as it should.

    Result! Congrats.
How "portable" is that map... I have high flow/modified intakes, Dbilas Cams and a higher flow exhaust but not the headers. Did you leave fueling stock in the end? Id love to try out your map in mine.

I can burn it to a couple of chips but .... The thing that really opened up the top end was opening up the exit of the manifold, without doing that it just chokes when you get up near the rpm limit ....i raised the redline by a few hundred RPM as well. It just wants to scream past the redline now.

Love this ....... planning to buy spare EML's and eprom equipment, just to make sure I can keep my CSI running (runs fine, but this threat could be a car-saver in the future).

My EU spec CSI (4K resolution):

    Hello there,
I found this post on Google. Many thanks to Omega for sharing.
I also have a E31 M70 since April - but has not yet been made on the EML / DME.
I also own a Ostrich 2.0, it had been used at a Motronic M1.5.4 (opel/Vauxhall).
The WOT fuel tuning was relatively easy. I have recorded the desktop with O2 sensor and DME speed value. After the test drive, I have watched the video. In TunerPro the map adjusted. Loaded into the Ostrich and retested. Here's the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7kRxrrFvjI
    How did you do that?
At POT fuel, I used the address hit Tracing in TunerPro and also recorded the laptop along with Lambda probe. The video evaluate manually is very complicated because of the many table cells (144).
    Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGDFAM9rG6o
Have you adjusted your POT Fuel map? How did you proceed? By other camshaft would have to the stock map no longer fit. Can be evaluated automatically with video OCR, perhaps?

I found thee fuel mixture to be perfect on all throttle maps, WOT was rock solid. I adjusted ignition timing on all maps. How did I do what? sorry I don't understand your question.

I adjusted the fuel slightly after changing the cams and opening up the exhaust manifolds.

After a long break from the CSi its back in the workshop......this time to remove the ACS kit, Hayward and Scott exhaust, wheels and fit the throwing Stars and standard kit back on. I have sourced an OEM exhaust system up to the rear silencers, if anyone has a pair for sale please PM me.

Porsche is finally on the road .....

Does anyone have the xdf and bin files for the EML of a 850i auto or manual? I am trying to play around with the WOT code. I can share the code once i find out how it all works together. Thnanks

Csi#0061 has been off the road for some time now. Back in March I took the car out for the day and noticed a whine coming from the drivetrain under acceleration. The whine eventually turned to a rumble and then to a metallic knock. At that point I had the car collected on a low loader. I initially thought the propshaft was at fault, but after spending a small fortune on a new one I was not happy to hear the same sound on its test run :-(

Back on the ramp I placed the car in gear with the engine running and had a good listen underneath, the knocking sound appeared to be coming from the centre of the gearbox! I have just sold the 2 new boxes I had stored for years! after a few sleepless nights I figured it wouldn't hurt to remove the diff first before committing to a gearbox removal. I was happy to find a cracked pinion gear inside with a tooth laying on the bottom of the diff. The sound must have travelled up the prop to the gearbox....sigh of relief.

Luckily Ed (v12 throttle) knew how to get all the parts to recon my Diff and upgrade to a 3.15 ring at the same time.
