2003 X5 3.0D Sport - No Power, Hesitation When Accelerating

    Hi!
I have a 2003 x5 3.0d sport with 93k on the clock. Automatic. I recently have had the fuel injectors refurbed as they were leaking diesel onto coolant pipes, causing them to burst.
Yeterday, I noticed a massive loss of power whilst driving. When pressing the accelerator the car doesn't respond that much, all of a sudden it will for a few seconds, lurch forward and then not respond again. Sometimes it almost stalls.

Coolant level is fine and the oil is just above the minimum level on the dipstick.

Anyone have any ideas where i start? I have a feeling not all Injectors are working again? Maybe the spark plugs?

Does it make a squeeling sound when it lurches forward? And does it rev high as well until you get up to speed? Sounds like a problem with your transmission. Usually they'll go to a "trans fail prog" when it senses a problem getting into your first or second gear, aka that lurch forward. And it'll put your car into 5th gear and leave it locked there so your rpm is high when you're accerlerating from a complete stop because you need to build up speed first since you're starting in a high gear.

    Hi
I think I may have the solution to your problem. I had the exact same problem on my 2003 X5 3.0d with 105000 on the clock. When cruising along I kept pushing the accelerator down gradually, more and more and getting virtually no response until the gearbox kicked down to a lower gear. I took it to my local Indi BMW specialist to run a diagnostic check thinking the worst (TURBO!)££££££! They quickly confirmed this and told me the turbo wasn't drawing the air it needed to work properly and also added that it would be around £1100 +vat to replace. Kindly the mechanic advised me to do a few simple checks before laying out the money for a new turbo. Open the bonnet and look down the left hand side behind the headlight and you will see a vacuum reservoir, this is vital for the correct operation of the turbo. It has a small black vacuum pipe coming from both ends, pull the pipe off the left hand side (engine running) put your finger over the end, you should feel light suction,if not ,remove the top engine cover and inspect the rest of the pipe for wear. On doing this I discovered a split in the pipe. I went and bought a new 1m length of vacuum pipe for £4 from a local car accessory shop, fitted it, a bit fiddly but only took 5 mins ,problem solved. Now the car goes like S~¥:*t off a shovel!

    Hope this helps, Good Luck.

    you are correct firecracker

those pipes tend to get hard an crack, which in turn effects the performance.
If that does not solve the problem, then you might want to have the actuator valve checked out. I had mine replaced on my X5 3.0d and it solved my problem. Good luck!

    This solved exactly my problem!
Turns out one of the small probes holding the tubes to the vacuumtank came of and detached the hose......10 minutes and some hotglue solved that for now!
    Thank you all!
