    Trouble removing DISA ? valve

I am attempting to remove the DISA valve. I have removed the two bolts and the nut on the cockpit fastner and removed the stud/bolt. I was able to wiggle the valve and it almost comes out but something is holding it on the bottom area. I can not see what it might be. Is there some type of control connected to it or maybe a hose that is in the way? So I have it loose and can not get it out.

    Any ideas?

Yes, there is an electrical connector at the bottom, that is hard to see from the front.

Will I ever be able to figure out how to undo the BMW connector?

Grab the connector, squeeze and pull it out.

I looked at and tried to pull it out. I used a mirror to look at it I see one of those BMW wire clips on the connector that make it impossible to disconnect. I will mess with it later.

Where do the wires go, in other words what controls the DISA valve?

Can I cut the wires and then repair.

I am also concerned with reconnecting the damn thing.

    Thanks.

It should be fairly easy to squeeze the metal portion of the connector and pull it off. Worst case scenario, do not cut, save yourself the headache and bring it to someone who can remove it for you.

I have a 6cyl, so I'm not sure if the connectors are different.

Squeeze the wire clip IN... You don't have to remove the wire clip, it locks until squeezed in.

    That.

Look at a more accessible plug (eg, cam sensor, ICV) so you can understand how they work and come undone. The biggest difficulty I had was that the ABS/ASC unit is just in the way and makes it a bit tricky to get the DISA valve out, but it is possible.

That little clip, once I found it, 10 second job!!!! Thanks.

Now this expensive DISA valve. Is it servicable? It seems to work. I have removed one of the hoses and applied vacuum and the valve moves through its full movement and it seems to hold vacuum for some time.

The diaphram material seems to be dislocated where the shaft to the valve is. It is a redish orange. Where the edge of the diaphram is the plastic is raised a bit between the support shafts. It looks to me like how the plastic would bend a bit after years of service but it does not look like it is leaking there.

Fail the part or return it to service???

Also the wires I disconected, are they to a motor on the valve or a sensor or both?

When it fails it will rattle.
Start the engine, listen, disconnect that connector - if you stop hearing a rattling noise, then replace. If not then it is probably still good.

is it more rattling, or high pitched whine?

My m44 valve has been whining but no rattling.

In my personal experience it sounds like marbles in a plastic container. Only louder. A whine sounds more like a vacuum leak. By the way love your Porsche history

Just currious, what would the car run like if I made a plate and just left this part out?

This valve basically changes the "size" of the intake. Basically making in shorter when needed or longer when needed. More torque or more horse power. If you bypass it, it will be noticeable. Just unplug it and drive. You will find out.
