    He knows me so well.

I just posted in the Baurs in the US thread and nearly laid an egg when I came across this item posted in there!

We have folks that would definitely want the locks and latches, if not more off that Baur. Were they intact? Are you, or is anyone else heading over that way anytime soon?

What engine is in this? M20 or M10?

Wow, what a great find..... er ...... umm .... pantless? Can we call ya spency?

Seriously, kudos for this post! Any info on this, such as the VIN, Baur plate number (on the top of the drivers side quarter panel under the hood), etc., would be greatly appreciated.

You should go back soon and get the info, and spend a few hours taking parts off of it. I'm sure you can sell everything you get. Anything Baur related is hard to come by, nowadays. It looks like a basic 320i other than that.......

Obviously it would be a labor of love (stupidity?), but it could be fixed. Someone really needs to grab the rear windows and trim etc. Anything Baur specific should never be allowed to be scrapped.

This is the same Baur that was at auction at Copart Vallejo CA. There is NO Baur plate on it. We knew it sold, but, until now, we didnt know who bought it. Now we know!

    Kudos pantless spency!

Can I call dibs on the good parts...I have paypal....and my baur is now famous since it's been in a featurete of a movie on the blue ray disk for 5 seconds lol....so I need to keep him fed with parts, My baur has become a bit prissy now since the second movie filming....He demands to only be driven on sunny days and wants to be buffed and waxed....

I need latch parts the plastic cover for sure that covers the latches for the rear on the inside. I can see one of them in the picture that might have survuved. I also need if intact the plastic guides that sit on top of the rear seat belts so they slide when the roof is down.

I also need the latch parts for the targa part of the roof, mine are wallowed out and my roof rattles.

I could also use any of the chrome trim that isn't all bent to hell or pitted especially around the back side glass.

I would even take the inside panels in the back seat since those are custom and mine aren't in great shape. They can be redone on the outside if the inside is in good shape and the goofy clips in the cardboard aren't torn.

Other parts of interest: black sunvisors that only came on baurs, the rest of the e-21s got the white/black visors.

I would say yes, go back and snag any parts you can that are related to the top. People will buy them, assuming they are still functional.

From the look of it and the info found prior, it is a true Baur, just does not have the plate still intact under the hood.

I agree with uberpanzer: yes, see what you can salvage from it. I know Ras from Georgia is in need of the locks and latches for the roof, and he has been looking for a long time. Anything Baur-specific, such as latching mechanisms, assuming they are in usable condition, will probably find a home. That would include any seals that are serviceable, btw. Check out the removable hard top and the folding rear top. If they are decent, there may be a market for those also. If you look on my blog, (Baur parts for sale) you will see where a guy cut off the entire top of a TC2, and has it for sale. I dont know that he has gotten any takers yet, but it is just sitting there in his driveway.
    http://baurspotting.blogspot.com/p/baur-parts-wantedfor-sale.html
Scroll back to about February to see how much he cut off. That might actually be the simplest way to do it, if you have the tools.... or if the yard will cut it for you.

As far as the 'genuine' Baur issue..... I too think it is a genuine Baur.... and perhaps the Baur plate has simply gone missing. The VIN is: 8051221. According to the VIN decoder it is a US Spec car, but I dont see it listed here:

This is a list of 25 US Spec cars that were imported into North America. As you can see, most were bound for Canada, apparently. We have found several, including Ras' #2581, #3264 (perfect match with VIN 7185037), and Eric B's #3374 (maybe), and we spotted but havent nailed down #4587. There is a little confusion over matching some of the numbers in the list above that we havent solved yet also.

There is also an outside chance that this Baur conversion was done by ASC under license to Baur in the US (like rigmasters), or that the original buyer purchased it in Germany with the intent of importing to the US, and thus ordered it as a US Spec car. We don't know at this point.

    Paging Jeroen!

But if you have the resources to grab some of the Baur bits, you should have no trouble unloading them. Thank you again for posting this, and let us know how you make out!

I already called dibs on some of the parts if they are good....I don't need the back latches I need the ones the targa clips into. I do need the plastic covers that go over the back latches I see at least one is there in the picture...

No problem, Jeff. I meant to make note of your dibs in my earlier post but I forgot. I think Ras is looking for the back latches, so this may work out great. I havent heard from him in a bit, so I am not sure if he is still in need of them.

I will try to reach him. I am wondering if someone is going to be able to get over to grab some of these parts.

I wish I could run over there and pick it clean but it's a 6 hour plane ride to Seattle, and about 2 days of travel time.....I've brought car parts home before, you should have seen the look on the face of the baggage check lady when i checked in a whole trunk lid from an M6 I picked up in san diego lol, or the look from TSA when I had a steering wheel strapped to the outside of my backback....I even brougt back a piece i took off a crv once from Texas that my wife had dented on ours...anyway I hope the parts can be rescued.

I can attest to that but you can call the yard and beg to have that car saved for a while. Believe me, the yard that held my two old 320i's found it pretty funny that I was paying to pick parts of cars I owned!!!

There are Baur specific parts in the trunk also, used to suspend and clip the targa roof for storage when it is removed.

Good luck, we look forward to hearing about your trip. We love pics, too!

Good luck. That is probably one of the only baurs in a junkyard in the USA....i hope it has many salvagable parts.
