Want to get a 3.15LSD, that's the only thing needed for the rear. That's only to have better traction hook up. I think everything else in the rear end will hold up just fine. I will replace the rear subframe bushings though, due to wear they have right now.
There's lots of medium case/driveshaft E34s out there putting down nice power without many driveline issues. I'm sure the larger driveshaft/diff/axles are more stout than their medium brothers.
Should be ok, with 2 12" in the front. Our weather climate here is weak. We don't have many hot days, and mostly cloudy/rainy days. If there is a cooling issue, I'll get another much larger fan behind the radiator, since it seems like I'll have some extra space right there.
Intercooler won't restrict much airflow, plus I removed the AC condenser, so there was a factory installed air restriction to begin with.

I believe the 3.15 is only a 15% lockup. Does fine for stock power but I am not sure about FI.
Kris,
Does your 3.15 still let you put 11's on the road or are you stuck with a one wheel tire fire?
Edit: thinking back His car hooked up pretty good. I don't see an issues with the driveline. As you said there are a ton of e36 with medium case drive lines putting down big power.

My 3.23 is 25% IIRC and I still leave twin marks when I break traction with turbo.
Bought a brand new miller syncrowave 200 this week and my DTA S80 has finally arrived (it seems like DHL uses snails to deliver their packages.) I'm getting pretty motivated right now to jump back into the build and build the manifolds.
The E32 750il 3.15LSD also arrived and is ready for the install.
I'm planning on ordering either 60 or 72lb ev14 injectors in a next week or two.
No more updates other than this for now.

I would replace the mounting bracket on that diff before you put it in... Mine snapped, leaving the diff supported mostly by the driveshaft in front. Ended up having to replace the entire rear subframe.
+1 for when the updates arrive!

I don't know the condition of yours, but I ripped mine off from an E32 at the junkyard, replaced all the seals, fed it new oil, cleaned up the outside, and popped it in.
Yeah, I would reinforce it. Seems to be a weak point. I broke it doing some hard shifting, not launching it or anything.
Same here with my 3.23lsd lays down beautiful twin strips on the pavementOriginally Posted by RVAE34

Sorry, I forgot to clarify that the bracket that broke on mine was the one on the side that mounts on the input flange side. Just wanted to warn you.
Thanks for the input MazDuh, but I think most e34 guys will have that bracket on their car already. I'm still using the same one on my car after switching diffs.
Thanks guys, I'll probably stick with the one I have now. I do have a spare open case diff for parts with a bracket. If I somehow break one, I'll reinforce my other one and put it in. This is not my daily driver and can it have some down time in an event of a breakdown.

Thanks Jon. I was just waiting to buy a new tig and finish a few things on my e38 and my other 540i before I start building the manifolds.Originally Posted by camaroguy

Forget the other cars, I wanna see these manifolds! And consider buying them from you lol. I don't have a garage to weld in...
I am excited about seeing these manifolds and fitment

Nicebuild..
i`m waiting for the turbo installed ..
Good Luck ..
DUDMD, nice looking build. I look forward to seeing the progress.
Have you ever thought of the possibility of doing a rear mounted turbo on an e34 540?
BMW Man
That how I was going to do it originally, but then scrapped that and am doing it properly.
Thanks guys, I can't wait to get some more time to work on it now. Both of my other cars are now aside for a little bit. I started repositioning the intercooler on Monday, trying to finish that this week and get the old b30 motor up on an engine stand to use as a mock up/welding jig for the manifolds.
I'm attempting to have the radiator sit back in it's original location, with the intercooler taking the ac condenser space.
Placing an order on some 80lb/850cc ev14 Bosch injectors tomorrow. Should be enough fuel with the twin walbro's for a lot more than the motor can handle. It will also have enough fuel deliver to run E85 up to 700whp. I'm thinking of getting a 30 gallon barrel to use it for obtaining E85. Closest E85 station is at least 20-30 miles from me, so the car will have to be tuned for 92 pump and e85. E85 will only be used during the hot season/summer.

Sick build, I've always leaned towards s/c setups for my next build bc of the tight d-side bank..but seems you will have many of these issues worked out in due time!
Rear mounted wouldn't be a bad idea, Corvettes have been running that way for almost a decade with great results...but I know, this isn't a Chevy right?
Unbelievable, can't wait to see those mad science manifolds bro! Gd luck with one of your many toys
Thanks.
The only good thing about a rear mounted turbo is you have a turbo on your car and it's able to produce boost somewhat. The vettes also have almost twice as much displacement, that can spool up their turbo(s) back there.
I'm not a fan or 20 ft of oil lines, and a 15 foot charge pipe.
Since we have the space under the hood for ONE turbo, I think it's best to utilize that space and run the turbo in a way it's meant to be run. Nice and HOT.

Agree'd
Might as well do it right, or as close to right as possible. I am excited to see the manifold and routing.

^^ This. Obviously the best solution would be twin turbo's, one for each bank, but we simply don't have the real estate under the hood for that. Dud's approach is the next best solution - single turbo as close to the engine as possible. This should be wicked once it's done, if a little cramped and hot.
BTW - you'll want to take an idea from Jon and use that heat shielding everywhere around that turbo - there's not going to be a lot of room left for cooling airflow, I suspect.
