    DUDMD - E34 540i/6 Turbo Build

    1995 540i/6 E34 Black/Black

Today was the day it all begins. I have had plans for this happen for over a year now and have been collecting parts since then. Today I have finally moved the car into the spot where the build will happen.

I'm shooting for about 500-600whp with 100% stock internals. I have never even removed the valve covers yet. I will during this build, only to paint them and replace the gaskets.

As far as I could find, only about 6 of the M60 engines were ever turbocharged, 4 were not in an E34. One was in an E28 that made 700whp+, one in a Volvo that made 640whp on E85, and one that is a funny car build that makes 1200WHP with twins. There was also an E32 740i build with twin GT35Rs. Looks like I'll be 7th M60 to be turbocharged on the web.

    Build will consist of:
    Tial Q 50mm BOV
Twin Tial 44mm waste gates, one per bank
    Turbonetics Ball Bearing T70, T3 divided/twin scroll.
E32 750iL Dual Fuel pump assembly
    Twin Walbro 255lph HP pumps
    1000cc Bosch EV14 Injectors
    3" Stainless steel exhaust
Custom TIG welded manifold, 1.5" SCH10
MaxxECU - bluetooth table for gauges/switches.
Spec Stage 3+ clutch (Already installed)
    Revshift Motor and Tranny mounts
    E32 750il 3.15LSD
Plus more that I'm missing right now or can't remember at the moment.

    7/2/2012:
    Washed the car

    Removed permanently:
    Airbox
    MAF
    AC System entirely
    Mechanical Fan
    Shroud
    Radiator(going back in later)

I then test fit the turbo and it looks like it will be a nice home for it, pictures are going to show about where the turbo will sit. Not so much luck with the air to water intercooler. It would work but I didn't like the fitment and decided to use the normal air to air intercooler due to a much simpler install and less problems down the road.

    Pictures from today:

Enough clearance to stuff a fat front mount in front of the radiator.

Right on... that is gonna be burley. Wished I could have stopped by yesterday... It got late and I was running on 3 hrs of sleep and 700 miles logged. Get going on this already!

Daily driving anything fast, since I could afford gas...

That's all good. The car was pretty dirty yesterday. This build will progress at whatever pace I can.

I'm sure one day you'll see this, possibly at 5er West next year, there's no way it will be ready by this year's 5er West.

    I'll be the 8th soon.

Congratulations on starting this. I actually started collecting parts only yesterday. I'm going to go bottom mount using 2 WRX turbos. Not aiming for your hp goal. :P

Please, PLEASE take tons of pics. Also, why are you installing the intercooler behind the radiator? If you removed everything A/C related like I have, there's ample space in front of the radiator (behind the kidneys). Also, what injectors are you going to use? That's something I'm still looking into. Wouldn't S62 injectors work?

No, not at all. They are a special design, twice as long as a standard injector. There have been lots of supercharged M60's built, any information those builders have on injectors should apply to turbos as well.

It's absolutely mind-boggling the amount of kilowatts that can be had from these relatively small displacement BMW V8s and i6s. Good luck with the mods, it will be a beast.

Are you planning on running uneven length headers? Any idea on how you will be running the driver's side bank to the turbo?

Aha. Thanks for the info. I had no idea.

Link? Flow rate? Bolt on or modification required? Those are available locally, so I'm interested.

The term 'kilowatts' just makes me think of the electric meter on the side of my house, which is neither fast nor cool. Horsepower is a much cooler word.

I'll have to wait until I'm back with the car to see what color they are... I can't remember. They're 42#'ers. No modification required.
