We autocrossers consider a coupla thousandths of a second a delay, you street guys might not get it, and ,yes, I do have to reset asc 4 times an hour, since we shut off between each run to cool off, a more logical system would leave it off until I activate it for slippery conditions, but the masses would screw up and sue somebody, so I have to deal with the lawyer'
s nanny state thinking.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by hundreds of engineers that get paid thousands of dollars for something you bought at Pep Boys because your buddy who doesn't have a job told you it was 'better'?!?

My first experience with this feature was a 528i last year. __< It sucks.
Now I have a 2015 Evoque and this system is VASTLY better than BMW's. Don't mind it much although I question its benefits. Not worried about .1mpg. May not be as powerful but it handles like its several hundred pounds lighter--btw it is. BMW's have become porkers!

The trouble is not about the stop/start technology. I can understand the need to "lower CO2 emissions" because of some legislator hugged one too many trees and imposed lower CO2 limits so car makers have to put these things in. What bugs me is the "auto" feature. It's an imposition. Call me old fashioned, but: A. Something that does not remember how I set it to, and I have to reset to the way I want over and over and over again is defective. B. Making you save the environment by imposing a function that by the car makers' own admission increases wear and tear in critical, expensive to replace components is an imposition too far. Keep the start/stop, yes, but for Chris's sake let it remember how drivers want to use it, which is how it should be in the first place. Yes, I am an idiot. Yes, I am unecologist ass. Sue me, you can go and hug a tree in the Amazon and get eaten by the marabunta. I won't be shedding one tear about it.
It amazes me how upset people get at having to press a button to disable a feature they don't like.
Wonder how these people would have managed in days when you had to crank your own car manually to start it...

Settle down Francis.
All the new vehicles (2013 & newer) come with the Auto Start/Stop set to "last user mode" which remembers whether it was set on or off, specific to the last key used, and all of the older vehicles are set to "always on at start-up", but can be programmed (one-time, free of charge) by the dealer to the "last user mode" setting.

they don't always use the starter to restart the eng. the DME knows where the pistons are. so if there is a pistons at top it will inject fuel and add spark and guess what, eng cranks.
