Not sure if I posted this before, but here are the repair procedures to repair and/or prevent your 4HP22 from losing the 'A' clutch pack. Pretty sure this is taken from the ATSG book.
Use this kit: http://www.superior-transmission.com...age.cfm?ID=104 K4HP22. Bulkpart.com, transmissionpartsusa.com, etc all should carry it. They also carry a valve body spring for the EH and non EH also if you feel like doing it while in there. Just adds some line pressure to crisp up the shifts slightly, worth the hassle to me while you are in there.
Obviously the transmission needs to be out to perform this... so you can just go with OE replacement clutches or the Alto 'A' pack if you have a more performance orientated 4HP car. Part number for the Alto setup is 053755. The material is better and the pack stack holds another clutch.
Replace the external trans seals while you have access and change the rear main on the motor. Drop a strong magnet in the pan and install an inline filter.
I may be onto something with a deeper pan that is a direct swap, I will keep everyone posted with my findings. It will probably add a quart or two at the most, but hey... more is better.
