Trunk lid open dash warning, when it's clearly not open.

This just showed up the other day while driving home. Said the trunk on the touring was open, pulled over opened it and shut it and the warning went away. Now it's appearing again. What could the problem be?

frayed wires in the hatch harness might cause the warning? But I'm not really sure...

Guessing frayed wires. It's a problem on both the sedan and touring, but more common on the iT's. I believe they run down the left side of the hatch. You might have one where the insulation has come off or worn down. If the circuit is open (i.e. a cut wire) then it'll trigger the OBC message... I think.

Or it may just be the sensor/switch needs adjustment, mine does the same thing. I can go push down on the hatch and the message goes away, sometimes it'll go away by itself.

I have a similar spaz trunk open warning, though looking into my trunk through the ski pass, I can see the trunk lights not coming on, so it is a problem beyond the switch. I am fairly certain mine is due to a faulty check control module, but have yet to prove that.

I had a similar problem on my Touring I had to slightly adjust the arm tighter on the glass hatch actuator. It had become a little loose, adjusting the arm with a screwdriver so it had more tension on the hatch bayonet (carefully) cured the problem for me.

Thanks for the responses. It was just the wires that were causing the dash warning. It's all good now.

Found the switch. Looks like it needs to be replaced.
