    Thermal Oil Sensor Defective

Regards and thanks in advance. I have a 528i E39 1997. Many years ago when I bought this car I noticed that the three lines (wires) of the oil thermal sensor connector were burned and stuck together, in fact it was almost impossible to recognize them and the fuse 15 was blown. In that moment, I didn't care about that because it was not crucial to use my car but now I want to fix that problem. I traced the wires until the DME´s compartment and replaced them by using original wires and plug (taken from another identical vehicle) but once I plug the connector, the fuse blows when I turn ignition. If I don't plug the oil sensor the fuse doesn't blow. My question is the following. Will it be that the oil sensor is really defective and that is exactly what happens when the sensor doesn't work anymore or that is not a normal symptom. If this is not a normal symptom I'd like to know how I can test the sensor to see if it is still working properly.

    Welcome to the forum Ian.
Do you have the oil pressure sensor and the oil temp sensor next to each other?
If they are plugged into the wrong sensor the fuse will blow.

    See #12 and 13.
