e34 touring rear wiper wont stop running/stops randomly

Well as the title says i have a e34 touring and the rear wiper is acting funny. one winter day 5-6 months ago the wiper started to act up during a snow storm. the wiper would wiper around hmm 10 times and then stop in a random spot. if i wash the back window it also stops where ever it wants.

The wiper is only suspose to wipe once then stop and the go after a time for those who dont know???

i replaced the wiper relay with a new one and replaced the what i think is the wiper controll unit with no luck.

wire in the hatch look good... some are a little pinched but should be running fine

i can feel the relay clicking on and off but clicks on then runs they way its not suppose to then clicks on and stops in random places.

anyone else have this problem. its beyond me. thanks in advance

i would say its the relay(s) back there. theres more than one, just head to the junkyard and pull all the relays out of an e34 fuse box you can get. then start swapping em out till it starts working right again. it also helps to know what year your car is. they changed the relay/wiper computer setup going >1/94 i believe

Short in the wiring harness that is by the hinges.

bump im still having this problem to this day. i had just given up for the time.

i have replaced what i think was the computer for it or relay (was a black plastic box near the 4 relays under that right panel in the hatch)

and i have replaced al the relays with brand new ones with no luck.

there are no crushed wires or torn wires at the hatch hinges. motor seems like its running fine but i still think its something electircal.

That doesn't sound like a proper way to diagnose the problem.
Just swap out relays, no matter what they are wired to? lol

    This.
I am suspect the wiper ghost is one of the Touring harness gremlins.

Well it was the harness. I had 2 wires that ripped and 3 were about to go. fixed them all and the wiper is back to working.
the wire wire that was cut was for the hatch release (which was working so i guess it came apart when i took the harness apart)

thanks had no idea that one cut wire would lead to that.

then don"t, if you are going to get a sandy clam over a joke.

If all you want is tech, read the bentley, the etm, and the bmw tech manual and thats all you will ever need.

    hi guys,

    i have a 525it from 1996

If I turn on my rear wiper , it turns fast for 10 seconds and then stops at random position and it wont work anymore until i start the car new.

I was searching everyhwere for the relay but i cant find it. Anyone knows where it is?

THe strange thing is that i have by 2 of the 3 cables of the rearwiper motor always 12v if i turn the motor on and the 12v stay there even if i turn it of . Is this normal? I looked for broken cables, but cant really find any.

would be cool if someone may can help or has an idea what it could be

edit: fuck me . Finally I found the relay in the right back corner behind the covering. Why they didnt put it to the other.
