I have a 95 E38 that had the window broken to get into locked car due to the fact of having 1 master key with buttons that dont and never worked, door lock just spins and ignition is kinda messed up as well... Started fine before all this. Window was broken to get in, alarm was activated and later turned off i guess. Key lights up dash but no crank or nothing from ignition... I tried reinitializing key and didnt work. Using gerts cable, INPA cant commuincate with the EWS so i cant check it for codes. INPA showed the ignition angle was out of range and battery voltage was at 0.00... Tried jump starting it with no luck. This is my first time messing with an ADS car. Im guessing its an EWS issue... Would stomp test show an EWS code? Car has been sitting for about 2 months with this issue. Any feedback would be a great help thanks!!!

You did run the ADS setup in Ediabas/Hardware/ADS right? Then reboot.

Ediabas.ini set to ADS and switch on interface to ADS?

Yes did i have to reboot the laptop or just inpa? It was freezing the laptop when i tried to do the f8 error memory scan... And i only have to change the part where it says std: to ads? I was a bit confused on how to change ediabas.ini so im not sure i did it correctly...

Don't waste your time with Ediabas and ADS, the clone copy tools won't work on OBD1 BMWs.

having 1 master key with buttons that dont and never worked, door lock just spins and ignition is kinda messed up as well...
Thats when a loser wants to own a 7 series and can only afford one master key. You probably neglected the car to the point where both the door lock and ignition tumbler gave up.

My suggestion is to remove the factory alarm brain unit, reconnect the wires there. Then try to crank. Factory alarm unit sends a signal to EWS box signaling not to energise the starter. If still no crank then turn key to dash lights on, then on the diagnostic connector under the hood you can manualy crank the starter just by jumping two pins, I don't know what they are you will have to look it up.

Not my car... And yes this car definitely seems neglected. Under the hood was horendous. I was just trying to help somebody out... Or maybe get it for dirt cheap and fix...

You could energise the starter by jumping pins on the diagnostic connector on E21's and E30's but according to the copy of the BMW ETM that I have, not an E38 - the 1995 740i only has pins 1 (Speed Sensor), 7 (Service Reset), 12 (Charge indicator), 14 (Battery +), 15 (L Line RXD), 16 (ignition signal), 18 (Programming line), 19 (Ground) & 20 (K line TXD) of the data port populated according to the BMW Electrical Troubleshooting Manual.
According to the manual, the early cars were fitted with a starter immobilisation relay, component K1w in the driver's footwell (i.e. no EWS) which provided input to pin 66 of the DME. The copy of the manual I have also indicates that the car could have been fitted with either an Alpine DWA or DWA IV anti-theft system.
If the car is an early build, this would explain why INPA has not been able to access the EWS. You may also find that if this is the case, there may be no .IPO file in INPA for diagnostics and you may need to use DIS (with an ADS interface) to retrieve diagnostic info.
I have found that with the early BMW's there is no substitute for the correct ETM, a good multimeter and lots of patience.

Does the BC have the CODE function?Make sure that the owner hasn't put a code in.The

door locks could also make a problem if they are stuck to double locking.

And the last thing i thought is that the key battery is flat,if the car was not driven.Hope

    i could help a little.

Just change the Interface = STD:OBD line to Interface =ADS, save the Ediabas.ini file, then open c:\EDIABAS\Hardware folder and run the ADS setup.

The laptop. You changed settings in the ports.

(Actually, once you run both the ADS and OBD setups, you dont ever have to run them again, the laptop will just know. You still have to flip the switch and edit the ediabas.ini file though)

Awesome to know... Ive nevet ran the ads setup. Maybe thatll explain laptop freezing when trying to do complete scan... Do you have to reboot each time i change the ediabas settings?

When i ran the ADS setup file i did not see anything come up on screen... Is this normal? Do i have to change the .ini file to ads first then run the ads setup or is it ok to run the ads setup with .ini file set to odb and just change to ads when needed? Is it normal not to see anything for ads setup like when first running the obd setup?

Its just copying DirectNT.sys to Windows...

    Change the ini and reboot.

But why ADS? Your car isnt ADS...

    Yes.

I actually have only run the ADS and ODB setups once on my laptop. I change the INI file and toggle the interface and all is well.

however..other have had trouble and have to run the right setup and reboot.

I dunno why...has to do with IRQ mapping or something..
