This is probably the best thread that I look forward to seeing updates every day. Great work Wolf.
Thanks Ahmed.
Some picture updates here. It's currently fake because only kind of "stuck together". But gives a nice idea of what the end result will look like. And since I most likely won't be able to work on it for the next one or two weeks I decided to store everything away until I can continue working on it.
Absolutely gorgeous. Take some R&R for the next 2 weeks my friend. I know you deserve it. :-)
So will you be making a video like this Wolf????

Holy S**t
Thats amazing :o))))
Does M73 has EGR system or what are those connections on pas-side manifolds? Not in M70?
that's a great video but I don't have the knowledge to do something similar.
I may publish a complete write up though once I'm finished with everything.
yep, the M73 indeed has an EGR system. I still need to cut those connectors off on three of the headers and close the holes. So far done only on one header.
On the driver side one is finished and one has it cut off already (as the big hole clearly shows).

Hey Wolf...sorry if I missed this in the thread, but how did you go about getting all those bolts and nuts galvanized? Were they all used OEM bolts from another engine and you then had them galvanized? Are they new OEM bolts that you had galvanized? Or are they simply aftermarket pieces you then had galvanized?

Amen to time consuming. Looks amazing. So many details are hiden after everything is put together so attention to detail to every part is key.

Those photos are very inspirational! Makes me depressed staring at my stripped down block that's been hangin around for months now...
Wolf is deffinetly doing creat job and some pedant detailing. All the pictures are verry interesting and learn-vise very usefull.
But... If I ever get down with M73 I wouldn't bother to go that far with detailing. As far as engine is mechanically ok and runs fine I'm more interested of what kind power it will produce. I'm realy waiting that point when Mr. Wokke start to tune chips for this app and how's everything works together.
shouldn't depress you. Use those pics as an inspiration.
I know I'm a bit crazy.
I just enjoy having an engine which at the end looks like or better than new knowing that this won't last for too long.
I guess it's a bit of a "yes, we can" attitude.

"Sick Puppy" apparently now has an official chapter in Germany
It'll last all right Wolf . A ton of TLC . You are an inspiration to all of us who like to turn a wrench now and then . Have you given any thought to having your exhaust manifolds , or maybe just the heat shields ceramic coated . Not sure if
it's been determined to be a positive or a negative modification . Cannot wait to hear the sound of your new engine .

no, they don't. Bolt pattern on the head is different and the M73 are much better headers so no reason to use the M70 ones.
no, I didn't after having the engine inspected by a specialist. It's also not recommended on these engines because it destroys the coating. Remember that the cylinders are not sleeved but bored directly into the alloy block and then coated.
great looking engine. my current M70 looks like this except it also got my company logo instead of the BMW one on the headers.
But since my engine bay is matte black (and will remain matte black) I decided to go the "bling route" with the M73.
Have you painted headers, pulleys and damper on your engine or is it some kind of a coating?

headers with heat resistant paint, and the valve covers, all other powdercoat
