Noise when steering to the left

I have this grinding noise coming from the front of the vehicle whenever I'm steering to the left. I don't think it's a clearance issue as this only occurs when I'm turning to the left and not to the right. Anybody else have a similar problem? Any ideas what this could be? TIA.

Check your wheel well lining, notorious for wearing out at the mount points, then coming just loose enough that the tire scrapes against them when turning. The only solution is to replace the wheel lining (about $22 per side from Pacific BMW). If you park the car with the wheels turned all the way to the right (in your case), then you should be able to see enough into the wheel well area to notice if the tire has been scraping during left turns.

He should probably check the fender liner first, as that seems to be a likely culprit. Check the easiest, most-likely problem first, then eliminate that and move on to more complicated theories.

yup, my fender lining is shot on one side. you can look right in there and see a nice spot wearing through it.

BTW- the comment about the wheel bearing reminds me of the thread where someone's sister took his car without asking and, subsequently it would not start.

Everyone was saying that it was a $$$ shift or worse and it turned out (I think) that it was out of gas or had a dead battery.

Do as Ron suggested and start with the easiest solution first . . .

so is changing your alternator b/c ur battery isn't charging while the engine is running (when it is only your damn BELT!)

i made that $300 mistake (but at least i recouped $100 by selling it to another bf.c member and i have the peace of mind knowing i have a brand new alt so i might never have to worry about it again)
