VAC Motorsports vs Speedware seat brackets

I searched to see if anyone has compared these but couldn't find anything. I am 6'5" and could use more headroom in my E36.

I currently have the Speedware brackets but was wondering if going to the VAC mounts would buy me any more headroom. They look like they would, but it would be nice if someone had any first hand experience using both of them.

    Thanks.

    Craig,

VAC Mounts will get you lower in the car. I've installed Speedware (Wedge Engineering) seat mounts in customer’s cars and prefer VAC mounts for quality, adjustability, and height.

I have them for both the driver and passenger.

Awesome, thanks. I figured as much but wanted to confirm.

The Speedware brackets are really unimpressive.

Have you checked out the new Motion Motorsport brackets?

With the gained angle on the transmission tunnel edge, allowing you to position the seat closer to center, these are a HUGE improvement.

You would still need the VAC plates with this setup, correct?

Speedware to VAC? How much headroom did you get?

99MPower- it's a mostly street car with reclining seats so side mounts won't work unfortunately.

VAC mounts for sure. Both will be low enough if you run fixed back (sit deep in the seat), but the VAC mounts will actually let you sit center to the steering wheel unlike the speedware brackets. Also they are a much more solid base than the bracket mount speedware sells (2 billet blocks or a welded together square with feet..).

Do not buy side mount brackets until you have a seat picked out, as the seat may dictate which brakcets you can run. Racetech seats (425 Motorsports has them to sit in...) have some models that require only their side mounts.

I may end up with a fixed back seat eventually, so thanks for the tips.

VAC mounts ordered, I'll report back once I install them.

I installed the VAC mounts tonight and they made an enormous difference. I'll bet I gained at least 2 inches from them- for the first time in a long time I can sit upright in a car and wear a helmet.

Vac is very low and it also clears the side belt hole for my recaro spg racer. Gave approx 2 inches over stock. Even more without bottom seat cushions. The biggest limitations is having the seat bottom out on the floor of the bracket.

If you have a skinny seat, a normal set of brackets will be limited to how far you can mount them towards the center. People dont really mention this, but vac can sell two right side brackets. The reason for this is to push the seat as far to the tranny tunnel as possible. (essentially the outer mount is "flipped").

Fyi, you will either need 4 washers to clear the front stud of the floor mounts (at least vac's mounts) or to grind the stud down, otherwise the side brackets wont be as far forward.

Just a few tips and recommendations.
