I talked to the son at length about the Oxford M73 car earlier last year. This car was on Panjo for a long time (89 weeks)

It looks old and tired. Faded, dirty, dusty, and neglected. It started and ran ok, but I didn't drive it. I didn't want to fall in love and become blind to the reality of the car. The red paint is faded very bad in my opinion. I would have to paint the car. Then the problem is everything not painted looks 100 times worse. Now you are changing lights, trim, interior, rubber, etc. At 7k maybe, at 17k, I am out. This was the first 8 I looked at when I was searching to buy one, and the 6 speed was the best part. The problems with the manual trans cars are well known. You take a big heavy car with plenty of torque, and room for wide rear tires, add my right foot and now you have a cool car with a broken trans, and no parts.

Sounds really nice, but can't do a black E31 again, especially here in Arizona... Bravo for having the paint job done right though.

54k? It is a nice car, but you wouldn't be able to drive it. You would have to protect your investment, which negates the whole point of having a cool car, IMHO.

That is definitely the problem with buying a car that has the potential to really increase in value.

Also true, cars that are going up in value can be fun and soften depreciation.

At 54k it has to be an investment. There are plenty of 8's to be had for under 10k, spend 5k to make it yours, and drive the hell out of it. If the values go up, you will get your money back, and will have actually enjoyed the car. That has been my plan, I paid less than 10k for my 97, and that allows me to enjoy the car, and not worry about putting miles on it.

For reasonable commoners like you and me, I agree 100%.

But there are people out there with more money than God, who say: well heck! For a measly $54k, I can be the proud owner of one of the most iconic and rare production BMWs to ever be sold in the USA.

For them, it's a reasonable price to pay for an exclusive ~225 member club; with total disregard for ROI.

True, and even then, if the car is well cared for, the value will continue to go up even with the additional mileage. There is not many cars you can buy for $54K that are going to go up in value, even as the mileage increases.

That's absolutely true xeler8- you hit the nail on the head. Especially valid in the case of this reasonably priced, fairly low mileage CSi. Remember, we're talking 225 cars here, and this one is red over two-tone! I think this is as safe a bet as that can be had in the E31 world right now.

72tpik5 I'm somewhat jealous of your situation, as I paid $20K cash for my black '97 850Ci back in 2010 with something like 83K miles on it... I was afraid to drive it, worried the value would go down, the 5HP24 tranny would blow up, or somebody would t-bone me right smack in the Euro CSi mirrors. When the radiator developed a small leak, I sold the car back to the previous owner for $18K two years later. Stupid! stupid! stupid!
