    E31 NCS expert +EKM HELP

Well, i got my Cable from Gert Today. It works great in DIS, INPA, and for LKM in NCS Expert. I was successfully able to reprogram my LKM to have the FTP's on alongside the highbeams!

and then i go to do the EKM, my car was a US spec car, and i want to change the Miles to KM on the odometer. The problem is i keep getting a COAPI Error 1000. Doesnt matter what 'job' i select. (the FSW_PSW.MAN file wanted is sitting in the work folder)

When i go to basic functions(in expertmode) i can read out the FSW_PSW.TRC fine, and it shows up in its own window with all the features. But cannot write back to it at all.... The annoying thing is i was able to read from it ONCE....

Everything in the car still works fine...lolol

When i go into INPA, it reads the module fine and even shows me that the Unit of measure is in Miles, but as far as i can figure out INPA wont let me program it.
When i go into coding in DIS and go to conversions and select mls->km it says program cannot code due to coding error, or something like that...

any idea's? Ive read about VO(vehicle order) and stuff, but have no idea what it means or how to change it?

I have discovered my vin is wrong in the EKM... would this make a difference? the first and the last 7 are correct, but the rest are just 0's...

here is my error log! Anyone have any ideas? ive reinstalled NCS a few times now...

This is probably not the answer you wanted to hear, but I have been unsuccessful reading an '91 EKM with NCS Expert as well... Same COAPI-1000 error (CODIERINDEX). The error suggests the coding index is wrong, but none of the available coding indexes work (C00, C01 and C25). The '91 EKM is the only early EKM I have, but I haven't had any problems reading '95 .. '99 EKMs. I'm afraid the early EKMs are incompatible with NCS Expert.

That's not the EKM trace file. It's the file I spoke of before (in private message) that bears no direct relation to the coding of your car.

VO/FA is for later cars. The E31 uses the central coding key (ZCS), but yes that might be a good approach to change the units. Note that you'll have to change the ZCS through SSS/Progman since NCS Expert will simply fail with the dreaded COAPI-1000 error...
I have discovered my vin is wrong in the EKM... would this make a difference? the first and the last 7 are correct, but the rest are just 0's...
That's okay. The missing data is simply not stored in the EKM. '95 and later cars have the full VIN stored in the EWS module.

Hmm, at least its not only me then... haha

I was about to install progman, but dont seem to have daten files for the E31 in the installation files i have. this would prove it somewhat useless... Do you know where i can find the daten files?

You might not even need SSS/Progman. Up to version v44 DIS included coding functionality. From your topic start I gather you already have a DIS version that supports coding.

Here you have the complete E31 daten.

(Rename e31.rar.txt to e31.rar then unpack)

GOT IT! I ended up using a neat little piece of software call ZEKO to give me new ZCS keys... with these i recoded the EKM using DIS, and now my ODOmeter is in KM!!

I recently started to also play with a e31 850 but my NCS expert does not show the E31 as and option to choose. Is the E31 Sp-Daten the issue as I don't have this?

LukasM3: If you don't have the NCSEXPER\DATEN\E31\ files it's obviously not going to work. Also keep in mind the E31 requires an ADS interface for most of its modules. That means you can't use Ediabas 7.x. You must use an older version in a 32-bit operating system. Recommended versions are Ediabas 6.4.3 and 6.4.7 (or Standard Tools 2.4.0). The correct DATEN files should be included with these products.

legoman67, I want to do the same thing, going from miles to kilometers. Can you please explain in a few lines how you recoded the EKM using the ZCS of the car?
